This is probably a duplicate, but rather duplicate than miss an opportunity I suppose.

Whilst researching Burroughs and Ballard I came across the following (translated) interviews given during Plan K.

http://realitystudio.org/biography/william-s-burroughs-and-joy-division/1979-interview-with-joy-division-translation/

and

http://realitystudio.org/biography/william-s-burroughs-and-joy-division/

or even

http://realitystudio.org/biography/william-s-burroughs-and-joy-division/1979-interview-with-william-s-burroughs-translation/

Colin

Forum: General Joy Division discussion

Insight: Joy Division 1979 "unreleased" sessions

Great stuff and sound quality in comparison with the one we all know!
Enjoy!

http://thepowerofindependenttrucking.blogspot.com/search/label/Joy%20Division

Joy Division, over their short duration, had several studio sessions which never really saw the light of day until 1997's box set Heart and Soul, and even then, not entirely.

Your humble blogger's previous Joy Division entry contained several tracks from these sessions, but I decided to do a roundup-style post featuring the majority of these - some are already available on the box set, but others aren't, and at that some of these have never been heard before in this quality you're about to find here.

So allow me to present Joy Division: 1979 Miscellaneous Studio, pulling from three separate recording sessions, presented in lossless FLAC for your pleasure.

JOY DIVISION 1979 Miscellaneous Studio
(mostly unreleased, mostly remastered)

1) 4 March 1979 Eden Studios, London with Martin Rushent (the "Genetic" demo)

Four tracks previously released on Heart and Soul, but presented here slightly repitched and remastered
"Digital" never before released except on bootleg

01 Insight
02 Glass
03 Digital
04 Transmission
05 Ice Age

2) 4 June 1979 Pennine Sound Studios, Oldham (for Piccadilly Radio) with Stuart James

Four tracks previously released on Heart and Soul, but presented here remastered
"Atrocity Exhibition" never before released except on bootleg

01 These Days
02 Candidate
03 The Only Mistake
04 Chance (Atmosphere)
05 Atrocity Exhibition

3) mid-July 1979 Central Sound Studios, Manchester with Martin Hannett (the "1st Transmission session")

Two tracks previously released on Heart and Soul, two other tracks previously unreleased except on bootleg
"Transmission" and "Novelty" from this session never before heard in this quality
All four tracks taken from a previously-unknown source cassette, in "best-ever" versions - this cassette is suspected to be 1st generation mixdowns from the rough mix master
All four tracks presented here remastered

01 Transmission
02 Novelty
03 Dead Souls
04 Something Must Break

Forum: General Joy Division discussion

Can you help a fellow JD fanatic

I'm trying to complete my collection of Live material, and need a little help. Does anyone have the whole Lyceum recording used on H&S. I'm trying to get a CDR copy of that recording for my own private collection and enjoyment. I need some help, and I know someone on this site has to have it. I already have the Soundcheck, "No More Ceremonies", "Komackino", "Further Transmissions", and "H&S", and I would like to add to the rest of the "H&S" recording. "No More Ceremonies is shit by the way. I am willing to pay for the copy with my Paypal, to your email or we can trade boots. I included a list of my Joy Division collection under the forum "Whats In Your Joy Division Collection". Can someone please help me.

Forum: Joy Division collectors items

TRANSMISSION + THE SMITHS INDEED 7th November!

NOT JUST ONE BUT TWO OF THE UKS MAJOR TRIBUTE ACTS ARE PLAYING KICO CLUB IN ONE NIGHT THIS NOVEMBER!

THE SMITHS INDEED - SEEN AS MANY AS THE BEST SMITHS TRIBUTE ACT IN THE UK, playing many high profile gigs and getting natonal press from The Daily Telegraph amongst others!

2. TRANSMISSION (The ultimate Joy Divison tribute)

Devoted to recreating the atmosphere of a live Joy Division gig, Transmission emulate the sound of one of the most inventive, evocative and influential groups of their era. Joy Division were formed in the late 1970s and dissolved in May 1980 after the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis. The remaining members went on to form New Order and have achieved much critical and commercial success. The influence of Joy Division, however, was far reaching. They were considered the pioneering band of the post-punk movement of the late 1970s and early 1980s. More than 20 years on you can still relive the dark cavernous sound of Joy Division through Transmission one of the leading UK tribute bands.

TICKETS ARE NOW ONSALE FROM KICO CLUB AND THE FLYING FLUTE ON BRADSHAWGATE at just 8, AND ARE GOING SWIFTLY!

People of all ages can identify this chance to ponder the greatness of the past for this one night only in Bolton!

Tickets also available online from the following link - http://www.seetickets.com/s.asp?a=the+smiths+indeed+%2B+transmission%28jd+tribute%29&p=5220

We are advising to pre buy tickets before the event as we expect a complete sellout!

Thanks for your continuing support!

Suck DJs x
Forum: Forthcoming events

How I got here, and questions about the remasters.

So the other day I was renting movies with a friend at Blockbuster. They had a new oddly named section -- "Special Interests". A lot of political/musical stuff. I saw a Joy Division documentary and, vaguely remembering the name from a song or two I'd heard on Pandora, decided to rent it. I watched the first 30 minutes or so, hated the whole talking heads thing, and headed to the computer to look for the band's music.

First thing I noticed is that there are a lot of "collections" of their work, mostly because of so many vinyl singles and live recordings. But they do have two "proper" albums, so I decide to look for those. I find what appear to be decent rips (although by now I realize that if I like the music I'll end up buying it, since they're only decent and not perfect) and put them on my DAP.

I start listening to Unknown Pleasures, which turns out to be a vinyl rip. I don't really like it, and I stop halfway through the first song. I try again with Closer, still don't like it, but force myself to listen for a bit. I stop about halfway through. Later on I finish the last half and decide I want to buy the music. What to buy, what to buy...

After researching for a bit, I find there are at least 3 CD versions of the two albums: the first ones, the ones from the Heart and Soul box set, and the 2007 ones. Unfortunately, this post is exactly what I was hoping I wouldn't hear about H&S, since that seemed like a relatively cheap way to get a lot of goodies (especially everything from Substance) in one purchase. I can't find any commentary along those lines for the 2007 remasters (I mean in more or less "technical" terms -- anything but "They sound awesome" or "Everything's so clear" would suffice).

So: Are the 2007 remasters any good, i.e., not just louder than before?

Also, a request for drew, about this bit from the link above...

Quote:

I've done high-resolution transfers of a host of JD/NO vinyl over the past few months and the clarity, sonic impact, "oomph", you-name-it blow all available CD masterings completely out of the water - Factory originals and H&S included.

...those are presumably transfers to the digital domain? If so, could you make them available to the public somehow (in lossless)? It feels a bit strange/demanding asking that, but I figure I might as well try.

Forum: The Ideal Beginning
