I have a question about the serial numbers... Since I don't own an original copy, i was wondering, where is the serial number printed? Is it on the record itself? or on the foldout sleeve? Is it on both?

It's on the inner middle of the foldout cover.

There's another one up for sale on Ebay now, apparantly No 1147 of 1578 . This one doesn't seem to be on the list on new-order.net

I'd love one of these, but I really don't think I could part with the sort of money it would require (

Another one added.  Suspect this one won't stay available for very long.

I bought one of the reissues and I have to say, considering I cannot afford an original at the moment (but definitely something I want in the future) I think it's a pretty damn good copy. It'll keep me happy until I can get my grubby mitts on my holy grail.

Oh and btw...it has the number 220 in it, so whoever has that number original is clearly the one doing the reissues I guess?

If it's one of the coloured vinyl reissues you have, I don't think you can blame the owner of 220, they are all individually numbered.

Getting back to original question, due to the label its a fair assumption that theres a French connection. Pont neuf bridge in Parisdates to 1578 but more interestingly is the number of Parisians killed by the Germans in the Battle for Paris August 1944.

From wikipedia;

It is estimated that around 1,500 resistance members and civilians were killed during the battle for Paris.

I did once see an article on the liberation of Paris in the Guardian, that quoted an exact 1578,it struck a chord at the time but I'm buggered if I can find it again.

Incidentally this is the 1574th viewing of this thread.  4 more.

Fair play Sam, I have resigned masel never to having the money for an original JD rarity, so I ordered a copy of both Sordide & An Ideal For Living Re-issues via Ebay to cheer me up, received them the other day, and I have to say for 20 quid they are well worth it. Needless to say if I win the lottery I will be outbidding our favourite Canadian webmaster for everything
