Updated my listings.

Yow, that's about 2x what I paid for mine, though I didn't get a bag w/ mine.

And if you think that's pricey, check this out...

Yikes.  Still, that's an impressive looking item (and seems authentic - insofar as the signatures aren't blatant fakes as so many similar items that turn up on eBay seem to be).  I've never been one for signed memorabilia, and looking at the price of that EP (which is sure to rise) makes me feel I made the right decision!

Hi,

As you can see I just joined the forum today. Unfortunately my brother passed away on 18/06/09 and he was a massive Joy Division fan. At his cremation we selected LWTUA as his main song. I have been left the unenviable task of going through his collection and we have to pass the tarcks on to pay his undertaker's fees etc. As you can undertsand it's a very difficult time but we must try and move on.

His two most prized Joy Division collections were the original  Sordide Sentimental ( he was user sonicfuzz who has got either number 39 or 239.. will check shortly) and also the 12" Ideal for living disc. I seen the Sordide Sentimental yesterday while searching through his collection and can confirm that the inserts are there as is the original bag, plastic inserts etc. It is in mint condition and know he never played it. He got it as the 2nd owner. I will be putting both vinyl on Ebay soon so this is basically a heads up to try and make a dent into the bill that the undertaker has already billed us for.

If this against the forum rules in any way I apologise.

Thanks,

Damien

#1304, "given to [the seller] by a member of Rob Gretton's family":

It seems the new owner is one "spindert" in the Netherlands.

dmurray0: sorry for your loss, based on this it was indeed #39.

indiearchivist: thanks for the spot, it's not one that's come up before, but why would RG's kin have such a high-numbered one?

Hi,

It may also be #239 as it seems to be a double post, but will check later when I get a chace to go through his collection properly.

Ah, sorry about that, didn't realize it was listed twice...it's the same item number for both too, so there's definitely an extra entry...I'll be sure to remove the extraneous record once you have a chance to ascertain which number it is.

(I keep the URLs around even if I know that eBay's long removed the entry, just to archive the item #, but should remove any broken links, one day...)

Jean-Pierre Turmel Quote:
"The first copies of the Joy Division single (maybe around the first 1000) were sold WITHOUT a bag, and the last ones with a blank plastic bag (without any printing). We took this decision because we found this was a very fragile packaging. This is true also for the Throbbing Gristle "we hate you" single. I don't remember exactly when the the printed (with logo) appeared but it was posterior to the JD single".

This certainly explains why I have no recollection of ever having one with mine (No. 00129). I never knew the bags existed till I (first) visited this site in 2005. I thought I must have lost mine or something. I thought I must be going round the twist for never remembering I'd lost something I'd clearly never had!

I have just put up #39 on Ebay for auction. My brother was the second owner of it and sadly passed away last month. The money we make from the sale will help us pay the funeral fees we have been billed for. You can amend your list and take #239 off it as that was a duplicate of my brother's.

Yes, the mystery of why we all seemed to buy copies where the bag had been lost has been solved.

Having said that most copies probably have a bag by now!

Yes Marko
The other issue is that the most likely things to go astray with such a package would
be the blue insert or the translation sheet. Anyone who had a bag, would most likely
see fit to store the package in to keep clean, thus it wouldn't get lost. It is a plastic bag, after all!

Just to confirm I received #39 in the post yesterday morning and I am now the proud owner of said copy.  It'll make a lovely ashtray and some JD beermats I reckon...

#1239 [no bag] up to a staggering £560 with still 6 days to go, but with a ridiculous £1500 BIN price...

Listed

It's up to £620, and still *has not met the seller's reserve*...

Keep in mind I got my copy late November last year for £430 (and at the time the exchange rate to USD was closer to 1.5/1 (it's now 1.61/1)...because for me to trainspot and not have one of my very own would have been very silly, though fiscally more prudent...aside from the "investment potential".

Well I thought I paid about right for #39 at £686, but this one claims to be unplayed and mint, though no bag, so what it could go for is anyone's guess. I suppose the BIN price is just in case someone wants it that badly and doesn't want to risk losing out, but really £1000 would have been a realistic tempter.

No idea why that went for £800 more than #39...okay so mint and unplayed vinyl but even so...something doesn't smell right there...

I own #342. Bought it back around 1986/7 from a german record dealer for 430 Deutschmarks. Pretty much in those times, 40 hours of work or so... Played it once to see if there are any scratches. There aren't. Copy is in near mint condition, complete with all inserts, but came without plastic bag. Later I bought another copy for a friend of mine in Plastic Passion on Portobello Road. for 100 GBP. That copy came WITH a plastic bag. Guess what I did...
