So, when Peter Hook auctioned certain items, like letter correspondence between Ian and Annik, Bernard and Stephen raised objections, after which the items in question were withdrawn. But they donated an amount to the fund for which the proceeds of the auction were intended.

Now, if I’m thinking of those fabled tape reels which were salvaged from the skip, including session material from Unknown Pleasures, then why couldn’t things be settled in a similar manner?
They are in possession of Julia ‘invisiblegirl’ Adamson, and surely she’s not Peter Hook. But wouldn’t it be nice if any money paid for those tapes could also be donated to charity?
And then see a 40th anniversary edition Unknown Pleasures with truly exceptional bonus material.
I think that would be wonderful. What’s the point in “sitting” on those tapes and watch them deteriorate further as they lie in indefinite storage?

Good post

It would be great for the fans if these recordings could finally see the light of day ... as its becoming abit like the Plan K video mark II !

I dont know the current facts ... so am only presuming here ... that the issue is still about the value of the 'finders fee' involved in handing these tapes over.

From memory, it previously seemed that the sum that the record company offered was deemed too low by the person who has the tapes ... and that in turn their expected sum was deemed totally unrealistic by the record company

Add to that the fun and games in terms of behind the scenes comms between both parties - not to mention the legal position in terms of the owner of the original music ... and its not hard to see how the supposed current stalemate has been reached

I like the idea of charity being able to help change such a position - and ultimately to benefit from it. Maybe even the fans could contribute to a total amount via a self funding page?

It was dealt with some time ago, Warners have the tapes.

The UP reels are the same as two sets they already have (they were labelled 'copy', and that's what they were).

The outtakes are not different enough to warrant release.

Um, okay. Julia Adamson said in the 2013 article “"They're quite different to the album," and "They're earlier versions before they did the final take, but they are really good."

I wonder if Warner’s thinks we expect the out-takes to be totally different songs. It’s arbitrary, because one could arguably say that “Insight” without syndrums is a different song. And someone else might ask: But would you buy it because of that?

Not on their own maybe, but as part of a deluxe boxset release then why not?

The "alternate" mix of Temptation in the recent Movement boxset was almost indistinguishable from the released mix, yet that was deemed worthy of inclusion!

And I’m quite happy with my minty Atmosphere 12” with the extended version of SLC. Not only has it got a few random drum beats, it also has weird electronic noises in the background. I can imagine not everyone noticed this. Point being that things may appear not much different despite containing several differences.
Maybe some of you folks know what I mean when I refer to the Still mispress.

True, but there were plenty of other interesting tracks on that rarities disc. UP has nothing much else.
