Interesting interview by Jon Savage with Bernard Sumner from 1994, contains a lot about Ian.

Agreed.

All the stuff about Ian and how they agreed he was leaving the band one minute and then not touring only recording the next and then a tour of America being booked is fascinating. Never heard a quote before that they all agreed that before, not even in the documentary did they really mention that except when Steve mentioned Ian said he wanted to leave and move to Holland but they didn't take it seriously.

exactly.......the interviewer has subtly  'tickled ' out very in-depth information.
intriguingly well made, except i haven't a clue ,who helen is?would like to know more....

Is Helen even "real" I wonder? It sounds as if he may have had to much acid.

yupp!read it again & helen is an example,me thinks!
i liked the part, where he denies the 'stiff kittens' & 'warsaw' era,to just 'joy-divisionial' all known material,in retrospect...........now thats acid consume
with a time-warp!
basically,he just comes over as an ordinary guy, with an extraordinary life, keeping a low profile without a hint of bragging.he's a lazy sod (like me,enjoyed that one!) & honest about it.thumbs up!

I would guess that it might be Helen Atkinson Wood

Edit - actually, reading it again, probably not.

She is an actress/ comedian, and a fairly familiar face on British TV. She was also a very close childhood friend of IC. I think she's mentioned, and possibly interviewed, in Touching From A Distance.

It's interesting and saddening that Bernard confirmed what Annik said in an interview posted somewhere on this site about yet another apparent suicide attempt of Ian's; this time in Bournemouth on 2/11/1979. On that occasion by drowning.
