Ian plays just one chord rapidly for those three songs. I already know that "Heart and Soul" is a D, but I have no idea what the others are. Can someone please tell me?

LWTUA is an A chord.

Incubation is probably a Dsus2

Heart and Soul is a mixture of D minor, Dsus2 and Dsus4

This A chord?
e - 0
B - 2
G - 2
D - 2
A - 0
E - x

The Dsus2 for "Incubation" sounds pretty close when I play it.

I'm pretty sure H&S is just two chords: D minor, and then taking your pointer finger off the e string to play it openly.

I've heard something about how Ian deliberately made the wrong chord in the video. However, you know what I think it is? I bet he played different chords between each version of the song. Remember, the video's audio isn't used for LWTUA; instead, it's the March 1980 studio version. Maybe for the video, Ian did actually play a G, rather than his usual chord. Or something; I dunno.

The guitar is tuned up a tone...

There is a Dsus4 as well in Heart and Soul...it's clearer to hear (and see) in New Order's performance at Reading 98.

Sorry, Phil.
You're goddamn right! [biggrin]

I also play this chord sometimes (don't know how it called):
e - 3
B - 3
G - 2
D - 2
A - 0
E - x

No - it's tuned up a whole step.

That's weird, and also needlessly time-consuming. All they had to do was out a capo on the second fret of Ian's guitar in order to obtain the same effect...lol.

Listening to the main version of LWTUA it sounds like Hooky is playing A but Ian is playing G

They were bordering post-punk by the time LWTUA was written.
