Don't think I've seen the first one before but IIRC the second one is in this month's Q Magazine and the third and fourth ones appear in the Atmosphere video.

As for where they were taken, I'd guess The Rainbow, 10 November 1979.

I may very well be bringing up the rear here, but here's a bunch of snaps I'd not seen before either, from JD's notorious Rainbow set the following April, just prior to their awesome (yes, I think so even if no-one else does) final appearance at The Moonlight the very same evening.

350125, photos signed as
"...at the Rainbow Theatre, London, 4th April 1980.
Credit: Chris Mills"
it's actually from the Lyceum.

That page is a right mess: the photographer credits seem to be spot on, but the places & dates assigned to the pictures are in most cases manifestly incorrect (and no, I'm not just thinking of the two photos dated "December 26, 1980 in London"). I'd say that only the final four are from Rainbow 1980.

Yup - the last four are from the April 1980 Rainbow show and most of the rest labelled as 4 April 1980 are from the Lyceum although there's an October 1979 Electric Ballroom in there too (Ian playing the Masquerader) and one (I think) from the LWTUA video shoot.

I'm not sure that I've seen that last Rainbow picture before (Ian playing the Phantom) - must be Heart and Soul from the chord he's playing!

Curious that there aren't more photos of the April 80 gig in circulation given that Corbijn was there. Also I don't recall him ever talking about the fit that IC had that night which is strange given the severity of it.

Admttedly that page is a trifle ramshackle but thought you might find it of interest anyway. Wish I hadn't bothered. Well, you'll just have to sort it out amongst yourselves.

I think the Barry Plummer picture is from the Rainbow 9 November rather than the Electric Ballroom.

I went to Kevin Cummins’s “Looking For The Light Through The Pouring Rain” exhibition at Salts Mill in Saltaire, West Yorkshire in 2009.

The woman curating the venue that day was called Davina Silver, whose late father was called Jonathan and had bought Salts Mills.

Anyway, she told me that the photographs taken of Joy Division in Manchester on 6th January 1979 (which Getty Images say was at “an art and furniture shop”) were taken in the waiting room for her dad’s shop in Manchester. I didn’t ask the address or district of the city though.

That's the one! I hoped somebody from that area would be familiar with where it was or used to visit his premises.

The photo credits I've seen give the details as
Art & Furniture,
19 Chapel Walks,
Manchester M2.
This is also what it says in KC's "Juvenes" book.
