"Don't talk to me girl - you know it's not nice Don't laugh at murder - I won't pay the price The facts are too high-powered - it's such a big thrill I'd do it myself, 'cause it makes you so ill Blame bad things on me, whatever you do When I come home my world is different from you You're such a chic tart - you're really dressed up Don't wanna talk to you - just left with your mum" "Gutz" !!

Quite possibly the most tasteless thread I've picked up on here. To put the lid on matters, Peter Sutcliffe was from my neck of the woods and a self-proclaimed 'folkie', very much into Donovan and Bob Dylan. He also had a soft spot for the Stones, his all-time favourite record being 'The Spider & The Fly', flipside to 'Satisfaction'. His sister-in-law was a concert pianist and via her influence had a taste for classical music too. As well as being way too 'mainstream' to visit any of our local 'alt' venues there is no way the cunning bastard would have risked exposure by being seen in places like Roots, Brannigans or The Good Mood, all of which were heavily infiltrated by undercover policemen - and, appallingly, policewomen, acting as 'bait' - from 1977 up until his arrest in 1981. The only JD-connected venue we know for sure he frequented was Bradford's Royal Standard, which as SB quite correctly points out was where he met his wife in 1967 - though by the time he'd begun his murderous spree had long ceased to be a regular there. For more information on the dubious Joy Division-Ripper connection see the link below - had to post it separately as for some reason I couldn't get it in here.

Ian was just an innocent young guy copying their lyrics all the time without understanding the deeper meaning..even taking quotes out of their songs and naming his songs after them: You're no good for me... But didn't know the dark things they were involved in. "Nowhere to run to, babyNowhere to hide Got nowhere to run to, baby Nowhere to hide
It's not love I'm running from It's the heartaches That I know will come
'Cause I know You're no good for me But you`ve become A part of me" Ian is innocent!

here's another crazy theory:Ian's alive & kickin' (preferably in converse sneakers)...which pay for his 'rushdie-esque' underground life-style,next to his pseudonym writing career (The Year of the Hangman ,anyone?)one should research the pictures of the attendees of last years burial of a known devotee & maybe, just maybe someone will pop out as 'familiar'?now that is a crazy theory......or not? anyway, here's the 'irrefutable evidence': ...& with his partners in crime:
