Just reading again what was served up in place of Joy Division that night. With hindsight of course it is all perfectly understandable but I have to say, and I am no advocate of violence, if I had been a paying punter on the night I would have wanted to smash the place up as well.

Was anyone on here at the gig?

Did you mean this with "reading"?

Wally mentioned to me a couple of years ago trouble was brewing even before the gig - Minny Pops were in a cafe near the venue and he said there were people there who did not make them welcome. He hinted these were some of the people who were let in - and who caused the riot.

dmxi. No it was prompted by a tweet I saw.
Lee. Interesting (very interesting) ! So, maybe the JD lite performance was not the root cause then or at worst provided a convenient excuse for a scrap?

Certainly sounds like there was a good likelihood of it kicking off, regardless of the JD lite performance.

Didn’t Hooky once say something along the lines of ‘As a favour, Rob had let in a number of ticketless fans to that gig.... but then those same fans were the ones who kicked off and caused the trouble’ ?
