Yes, it's not available anywhere. At all. It will be "released" in some form in 50 years when all participants have died. Or made up. Something like that.

That gif is from Malcolm's rehearsal footage as already mentioned.

If i'm not mistaken, if you watch Grant Gee's Joy Division documentary close enough you will see snippets of this. So it's not from a gig, it's from TJ Davidson's rehearsal room.

The other band members always said that the live footage of the band that exists would never catch the band at their most casual. But I bet the TJ Rehearsal Rooms footage comes pretty damn close...

Found the footage it was taken from, was all of that used in the documentary? I don't recall seeing some of it.

Am I right in thinking that the footage just posted on YouTube has not been seen since the original Malcolm Whitehead film was shown?

Just seen that the uploader has also uploaded broadcast quality footage of the Something Else appearance along with the interview. Is there something going on here?

Nope, the Whitehead footage is stuff from the JD doc, some of which wasn't in the original film, the BBC stuff is from rebroadcasts. They recently showed SLC in full for the first time in a long while. The interview is a lot longer originally.

Yes, the Whitehead footage is the same as from the documentary, but it is uncut. This looks more complete.

So then where did they get a 2 minute section of Ian's "regression therapy" tape that was also used in the documentary?

This is an uncut version of that regression therapy tape, you couldn't pull that off the documentary it was mixed with other things over it. Was it someone who had access to some of the audio and video used in the documentary placed this out there?

A few interesting things about this.... It says that it took place on the night of May 4th to the 5th 1980. Not sure if anyone had actually nailed down a date for that previously. Assuming that is an accurate date.

Also the cover photo of this is the 'last letter' that Ian had written to Annik also dated May 5, 1980. Again, where did this come from? and why would place it as the cover of the audio, other than the date being the commonality. And where did that come from?

And they also have a instrumental version of Shadowplay:

Is this from a rehearsal or a soundcheck? I don't have this on any of the bootlegs that I have.

A lot of interesting stuff here.

m_peterman, that instrumental version you posted of 'Shadowplay' seems like it's a very early version before Barney had decided exactly what he would keep in for his guitar part. He's clearly trying out various riffs here, fluffing some of them but only some would make the cut and the new structure. One small guitar bit at 3:28 is recycled from the intro of 'You're No Good For Me' on their 18/7/1977 demo.

Who ever put that snippet up that yotube clip of  Ian's "regression therapy" tape......made a very poor taste in judgment. That is obviously a very private piece of Ian's life, that has no place in the public eye. So fucking sick and tried of people having no respect or taste when I comes to the last moments, days, or weeks of Ian's life. I understand that there is a morbid fascination (because of what Ian did and wrote about) when it comes to Joy Division, but I wish some fans would understand that some things need to be left private and have no place in the public spot-light.This reminds of me of that fucking Youtuber who leaked the IALP stuff....................truly disappointing..........and sad!!!

m_peterson, I believe that letter to Annik was publish in Torn Apart. So it's out there in the public eye.

Yeah, I agree a lot of that should be private and not made public. I thought some of it was of interest since I had not seen it.

I didn't know it was you, or I would of privately sent you a message. Sorry Fage...I have the utmost respect for you, and what you are doing with your JD remasters. Let someone else embarrass themselves by posting it. Cheers, mate

m_peterson it's from a Rehearsal in 1978. It was leaked on some file-sharing site a while again (forgot the name of the site). Because it (Shadowplay) is still a work in progress, it's pre-May 1978......sometime before the RCA session.

Darkman, if you think the hypnotherapy tape has "no place in the public eye" then you must presumably have listened to it in order to have made that assessment. So your comment sounds somewhat hypocritical.

I understand your point…..but *if* you hear something, does that mean it can’t stay private? I’m not saying I’ve heard it or have it……..but it occurs to me that some things should stay private, and not jacked up to the internet as entertainment for the masses; especially something recorded 2 weeks before his tragically took his life. I mean if it was suitable for public consumption, then the powers to be (Debbie Curtis, Bernard, Stephen, Hooky) would of made it available already right? Only a very small portion was used in the JD doc……and probably for good reason.

…….hey here’s a morbid piece of JD history enjoy!!!! Where’s the respect for Ian’s memory…..there’s no honor or respect in posting something like that, especially without proper permission from those involved (the band or Debbie).

Darkman - I can fully appreciate your reasoning if the therapy tape has never been made available - but the snippet we have is on the JD documentary for all to hear. None of the material fage has uploaded is brand new - they are either souped up versions that are or were available elsewhere (Paradiso), rehearsals that were leaked on the net (Shadowplay) or available from other official sources. All fine to me. All fage is doing with this therapy tape is isolating a snippet that everyone who has seen the cinema screenings or bought the DVD has already heard.
