As we are all Joy Division fans, I think we can all agree Joy Division were an unbelievable live band. They had emotion, power, and a raw intensity that is hard to match.

Where would you all rate them objectively speaking as far as the greatest live bands of all-time? This opinion can be raised from personal experience as well as footage you have seen.

Well, if you just the live recordings can put you in such a trance (well, at least for me), I'd say that.

For the last 35 years I would have said that Joy Division were the best live band ever, and it was unlikely that anyone would ever better them. However I have to say that I believe that Future Islands are even better live than Joy Division were. There are a lot of similarities - an inventive drummer; a superb bass player with a high playing bass; a synth player providing the atmosphere and the occasional melody; and a lead singer bursting with energy, emotion, and some great dance moves. And with over 1000 performances to date they are as tight as a badger's a#*e :-)

Catch them on YouTube and see what you think...

I agree they are a really good band and their live act is excellent, but.... I find them too artificial. I saw them live 2 years ago and, although I enjoyed it very much, I was a bit disappointed seeing the same movements, expressions, theatrical performance of singer Samuel T Herring that I had checked in videos. You can't be always like that, if you get what I mean. He doesn't act very natural, seems to offer what people want to see from him.
I'd never say I didn't enjoy the show, but it wasn't something to remember all my life.

It's pretty much performance art, what Samuel T Herring does.

Future Islands are good. But nowhere come to the raw, organic, emotional intensity of Joy Division. At least in my opinion.

I find his vocals quite irritating - but that's just me.

Arcade Fire are a great live act. They bring a lot of energy to their performances. Don't know if there are any other fans on here.

Underworld are great to see live. I saw them at the Sydney Opera House
in April. The sound, the setting, the 90s rave-like, loved-up vibe of the
crowd, Karl Hyde's trance dancing during Juanita and Born Slippy.
By far one of the best gigs I have ever been to. Certainly in my top 5.
