hi saint, haven't seen any numbers regarding the 7" as factory had an alternative approach to cataloging their output which is a collectors nightmare....ask proto but he's more firm on 7" grounds!

Eight hundred bloody quid? I wouldn't pay that for an UP test acetate, never mind this lump of shit.

prices are climbing:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/271606982107?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
mine's in a similiar good condition but something severe must happen to part with them (knock on wood that that situation never occurs).

...asked the rare-artefacts-expert which came out earlier - this 1.press (solid black) he sell or the reddish ones (also 1.press entitled) he sold before, here his exact answer:

both first presses. different pressing plants. the translucent is just a thinner vinyl but collectors like the red more.

no comment to the question about the extra etching on the run off...

No one really knows the facts here, whether these were first, second, third pressing etc  .... indeed no one even noticed the red translucent vinyl for about 30 years !

See Truth's comments on page 1 of this thread for the best info we are probably gonna get

For me, this is just another opportunity for dealers to help inflate prices by making various unsubstantiated claims  .... which unsuspecting fans then buy into, and further propagate the myth (ie. that "this is a genuine first pressing" etc) ... whilst paying inflated prices.

Bit like endless poor quality bootlegs of re-hashed material .... steer clear, don't believe the hype and save your hard earned cash

Please note that "Townhouse " used instead of "Porky" is the 2nd pressing,  and on recent issues neither "Townhouse or "Porky"  appear , but are otherwise pretty much identical to the original and even  contain step/ this is the way on the run - off etchings

wonder where he got his info from?

Bit of an urban myth I'm afraid, Pat - think I've mentioned this elsewhere but I bought my copy of UP around August 1979 and straight away spotted that strange ruby-coloured effect when it was held to the light, and I certainly wasn't the only one. I heard this pressing being discussed at New Order gigs as early as 1981 (yes, never met a fellow JD/NO fan until then, a good measure of their pretty obscure status in those days) and no-one seemed particularly puzzled by it. There were numerous other bands whose LPs & 45s turned up in the same colour. It's one of those quirks in JD's vinyl history that'll probably never be satisfactorily explained, like the 'Culturesound Records' credit on the 'AIFL' 7" sleeve. Have we ever discussed that here? It's always baffled me....

It happened to lots of other pressings of various artists put through Island's pressing plant in the period.

What would be wrong is to assume that it's in any way planned or indicative of a 'first' pressing.

It was random and barely noticed.

Forgive me if this post isn't within the forum's guidelines.

I am having to sell just about my entire vinyl record collection, they were stored at my father's but he has recently passed away and I have nowhere to store them now.

So before I give them away for virtually nothing to a dealer, I thought ask if anyone is interested on here. I would stick them on ebay but I am limited to ten sales a month and have heaps of stuff to put on in a short time frame.

I have the following JD, Transmission 7inch, LWTUA 7inch presumably both first pressings, I haven't checked. First pressing (I will clarify) Unknown Pleasures, Closer and Still, Still is in the card sleeve.

I have Earcom 2 and a blue vinyl Short Circuit Live at the Electric Circus.

I'm not holding out for crazy prices, time is against me, any sensible offer will secure the item.

I also have the first recording of the LWTUA melody as recorded by the writers Manchester Mekon and released on the V/A lp A Manchester Collection on Object Records.

If you are after anything from that period late 70s to mid 80s feel free to ask.
