I'm pretty sure the following pics of Ian haven't surfaced until recently:
http://invincible-error.tumblr.com/post/98041285076/ian-curtis-at-work-party-circa-1977

(I believe this is the original source)

Anybody know more regarding the origination of these photos?

...amazing - thanks for those - perhaps the only photos I have seen where you can really see the side of Ian that the band describe (a really fun guy who liked a joke etc).

I got them from some bloke's Instagram account and put them up on Tumblr (indeed http://invincible-error.tumblr.com) where they've gone pretty viral. He says that he got them from a mate from work.

To be honest I'd much rather have a previously unsurfaced concert recording from late 1978. I'm actually quite uncomfortable seeing these photos. NOT because they would be shattering some exalted image I have of the doomed Artist and Poet Ian Curtis (which I don't), but because I feel like prying into someone's private life - even if the pictures were taken at an office party. Then again, living in the Facebook age, I guess this is probably a minority view.

I'm with you LB, if it's to do with JD or JD gigs and tours I'm OK with it. I've never been interested in the photo's of the band members in their times away from the band.

Each to their own and all that.

How long before one or more of these are used on the cover of a new bootleg.

About two weeks. On that " previously unsurfaced concert recording from late 1978." ;-)

twenty4hours I like your photo analysis. I thought of one other point: whoever took the photos, Ian was sharin the lurve to them too.

I think Ian appears timeless in these photos because his clothing and haircut are classics,; classics never bend to the prevailing trend, thus they are always appropriate and timely. You can see in these photos how the clothing the women are wearing is trendy and of the time period; nothing wrong with that, in fact such trendy clothing helps identify the time period in which the photos were taken.

I don't feel I'm prying looking at these photos. I feel very privileged to share in the obvious radiant emotional joy displayed in them. Sharin the lurve -ain't that "what life's about/is this the dream we share" ? Or are we to be "stood alone here in this colony"?
