Hello everyone, i have recently become interested in information pertaining to the mysterious Leigh, Open Air Festival footage that is rumored to exist. Someone who was allegedly heavily involved with the planning of the festival says that one of the crew members had shown him footage of Joy Division performing at the festival and that it was in good quality, its also rumored to have backstage footage of Ian Curtis. The person who added this entry to Joydiv.org says that the claim is most likely false, and I'm still on the fence about that, i think footage of them performing might exist but i seriously doubt that theres footage of Ian Curtis backstage. With my curiosity being aroused i thought the best course of action would be to contact Peter Hook who mustve seen a cameraman out in the field considering there were barely any people in the audience, the representative who runs his Instagram account said that they will pass the info along to Peter Hook and as of right now I'm still waiting for a response, i will let you guys know once i get more information..... FINGERS CROSSED!

You can also ask Chris Hewitt, since it was he who made the (probably) false claims.

He puts out enough dodgy DVDs of this sort of stuff, if he really had anything he would have put it out by now I'm sure.

I don't believe it one bit and think it's unfounded myth-making. It may be nothing but a simple mix-up with the Plan K video.
Hasn't this been discussed before?

Ahhh, yes, i read on the entry that Chris Hewitt was the one involved but i didnt bother searching him up considering there are probably hundreds of Chris Hewitt's in England. Do you know where i can get a hold of him?

It's quite easy:have a browse on ebay uk, look for alleged hannett equipment sold by beam(with three digits) & try to get in contact. ...

The crowd doesn't look so big to not see the cameramen with equipment. VHS cameras were not a compact at the time.

I'd rather believe that there are footage from two nights in the Rainbow or from Kant Kino..

It is worth noting that Chris Hewitt has interesting things. His bootleg with JD's outtakes is really a godsend.

Great pic Fage .... so few people there to witness a powerful Joy Division performance (despite the poor sound).

Would be nice if true, but some footage or stills of the footage would have surfaced by now (especially if it involved the individual listed above!)

Unlike the USA, portable home video cameras weren't readily available in the UK til 1981/1982  ... so unless professionally filmed, any supposed footage would have been on Super8

I cant believe the legendary Fage has replied to one of my posts, also nice picture, and I cant find any cameras evident in the picture. Except maybe on the far right, but I cant be sure. Anyways, Peter Hook hasn't replied to me yet, I'm gonna assume either the representative forgot to ask him or Peter Hook didn't wanna respond. Ill check in with the representative again to see if he remembered and ill let you guys know.

I am absolutely sure this wasn't filmed. I had lengthy email discussions with Chris Hewitt and I couldn't obtain any evidence whatsoever that it was.
