I notice the latest reissue of the Buzzcocks "Another Music..." contains a bonus disc with the full Buzzcocks set from the Electric Circus (October 2nd 1977). If the Buzzcocks have access to this tape I wonder what the chances of the full JD set being released are?

The full Buzzcocks set has been around for ages on boot.

The only other track that seems to be in existence from the JD set - ie Hooky once said he has it in his collection - seems to be "Novelty". He promised to put it on his myspace ages ago - ho hum.

I think you'll find that the first track is from the Elec Circus, and the rest is the Bowdon Vale gig - 14/3/79

That's right, and you're missing I Remember Nothing after Transmission.

I believe Warsaw only played like 20-25 minutes that night.

Someone on The Fall forum is claiming that they have been assured that the Fall and Joy Division sets were all fully recorded that night and remain in the EMI / Virgin archives (The Buzzcocks set has already been officially released)

They were recorded by Phil Newell of Manor Mobile Studios

I don't think that would come as any big surprise to any of us who own the "Short Circuit" 10".

Why's that?

I own the 10" and I don't remember it saying that the full sets were recorded

I just meant that given that JD was recorded as well as the other bands, and the sound quality for each band on the 10" being pretty much the same, I can't really  imagine the sound/recorders going "OK, this band, just tape one song and then shut it off".  Much easier to tape the whole thing and cherry-pick the good stuff afterwards

Ah OK - see what you mean.

I agree, it was always assumed that the full sets were taped, but never confirmed. The fact that Virgin sat on the tapes of incredibly rare early gigs from The Fall and Joy Division/Warsaw for 30 years had some people doubting that they existed.

@bobbydriver - If there's anything the rise of YouTube has taught me, it's that there is an incredible amount of "sat on the tapes" stuff out there, crawling out of the woodwork.  I can imagine all sorts of scenarios - dusty storage lockers filled with canister after canister, with no one wanting to bother to sort through the mess, so it sits and rots.  Heck, that could almost describe my house

I think all of us would love to hear the whole set. Such a priceless insight into the live sound of early JD. Of course we have the early Warsaw Demo, but there is no live recordings (that I know of) that are in circulation, from 1978 and 1977. And after hearing the ungraded version of "At A Later Date" from the Electric Circus from the Recycle Project, the sound quality and performance should be pretty amazing from that set; as it should be since it was professionally recorded. I also recall Hooky displaying a tape recently, that said "Electric Circus" of it. It might be possible that Hooky and possibly the other band members might have a copy? In the end, it would be nice for some of these early gig to surface for the fans.........

Maybe someone can email the EMI archivists and ask if they have the recordings in the vaults?
