On Family Rock Trees - And God Created Manchester, Steve Morris recalls a poorly attended gig in Oldham - surely he's mistaken, has anyone heard about this gig before?

Chances are that he would know better than anyone here......he would have been facing the lack of audience after all.

There were several poorly attended shows. One, in Halifax, had an attendance of ONE. Even Halifax Town get more than that!!

TJ,is there anything you don,t know about this band?Seems to me you should write a book on them (together with the guy from iancurtis.org perhaps?)Seriously!

Hehe - I only know what I have read in other books, and what I have picked up from personal experience, interviews the band gave to various journalists over the years, or from other people on here.

There are enough books already, none are 100% right, but why should being right get in the way of a good story?

A very Wilson-esque answer, TJ.

I am a journalist, and it is frightening how much editorial licence those in my profession deploy sometimes ...

I had the dubious pleasure of going to school in Oldham. It was common knowledge amongst the playground footy playing, music savvy in-crowd that JD once played a gig in Oldham. Nobody had been...or knew anybody who'd been...but all the same, it was a "fact".
The legendary gig had apparently taken place early in their career, possibly as Warsaw and had occurred at the Pennine Lounge in Oldham, a large ballroom above the bus station in Mumps.
I remember the first time I ever stumbled upon JDcentral, the first thing I did was to try and find out the details of this gig on the concert page...alas, no such details exist.

If anyone else has heard of gigs that we don't have on Joy Division Central please email me with as much info as you have.

We spend a lot of time chasing leads up - and once in a while we manage to confirm a "new" listing for the site.

Just found the answer to my own question!
I'll let Hooky do the talking -

"We once went on before the doors had even opened. In Oldham Tower Club as Joy Division a guy was sweeping up while we were on. Nobody there except these two girls who came right up to the front. As we finished the song, this girl goes, "Are you the Frantic Elevators? Fucking 'ell, we've come to the wrong place!" That was Mick Hucknall's band."
