The NMC release has skips in "Insight" which makes it unlistenable... As Darkman said, I believe France Inter were never approached - quite likely because NMC were cheapskates?

The reason the new broadcast sounds "flat", is probably because that's what it is, a flat digital transfer from the master (or backup) reel. The NMC release was taken from a copy that went through two generations of analogue cassette copying. Guess what, the spectral response of magnetic tape could sometimes improve things!

Anyway, still hoping for a re-release of the NMC cd, professionally mastered (i.e. not brickwalled to death) from the France Inter tapes. Such a shame that fans - quite a few, these days - are denied the best capture of JD in their element, in its entirety.

France Inter probably want far too much money for it, that is possibly why it hasn't come out in full. If you have to pay through the nose for licensing it renders any release not viable.

Ask them what it will cost to license for CD release worldwide.

I think that may have been the case in '99 but from what I gather, many copyright holders have been dropping their licensing fees to more realistic levels these days - simply because it may be the last chance to license their assets for cd release at all.... It's worth asking, isn't it?

They do need to be more realistic, that is very true. Otherwise nothing gets released and they still get nothing. Licensing needs to reflect the world we now live in, where CD sales are down considerably and music DVDs are practically non-existant. DVDs being only an extra disc for a CD release nowadays.

That's very interesting. I didn't know it was 2nd gen! Amazing that the spectral response improved the Sound Quality!

It's such a shame, really! It's music, it needs to be listened to, bottom-line! It doesn't need to be locked away and never heard! It's a recording of a live concert! I can see certain things never being released, but others not being released leaves me scratching my head! The Les Bains Douches gig is one that leaves me scratching my head! There is no reason why the fans shouldn't have access to that gig, complete and at the best Sound Quality!

God, I would love for a re-release of the Les Bains Douches CD, but this time with France Inter getting paid, a reasonable amount, and the fans getting the complete gig at the best possible quality!

So it doesn't matter if it's the true capture of the FM broadcast, all the copies will sound like the "streamed version", that was up on the Radio station's website! This is the copy I have, and yes it sounds very flat! If this is all we have, then would it be possible to mix those 4 new songs with the audience recording, to add more depth! Or would it sound even worse, with the tape hiss and all! I know nothing of these things, when it comes to mixing and mastering audio; sorry if I sound stupid

Hi,

the Black Sessions of Frank Black were officially released in 1994, so i don't see any problem to have the Joy Division gig released.

See You

Hi,

all the masters i received so far were digital satellite ones. It seemed that some tapers "lied" about that, stating that it was a "real" FM capture.
But at least we are still working on a few guys that taped the broadcast.

See You

It just needs a bit of re-eqing (to sound like the cassette copy) but nowadays most people could to that with Audacity or whatever. Failing that, try pressing the "loudness" button on your amp if you've got one!

Is this something you have done with your copy?

Like I said above, "I can see certain things never being released"! And when I said that, I was talking about those IALP rehearsal takes.

The band doesn't want those "IALP Rehearsal Takes" to be released; ever. Who am I to second guess what the band wants to do with THEIR music. The band and Debbie are the guardians of Ian's Legacy, and they feel like releasing those songs are not an option. Again, who am I to second guess the decisions they make. Sorry, letting down Hooky, Stephen, Bernard, Debbie, and my JD Friends is something I will never do; whether you guys like it or not. In the end, it's going to be one of those rarities you have to know the right people to hear or own.

Well it would of been a dream come true to hear the true FM Capture all put together, creating the best possible example of the gig, but it seems we will not get to hear it after all. So close but yet so far. I thought we finally found some good luck and would hear more from this recording! It's seems that won't happen.................

I don't suppose anyone recorded this one...

http://news.cerysmaticfactory.info/2010/07/joy-division-les-bains-douches-for-ian.html

...apparently the entire gig was broadcast!

The write-up seems to suggest that they somehow had access to the full France Inter recording, which i can't quite believe – especially considering that Bernard Lenoir gave it another partial airing recently – but without a copy of the show, it's anyone's guess what source they actually used.

Did anyone catch the show?

"Disorder", I can shed some light on that for you and everyone else here scratching their heads after reading that. I know of that broadcast and who provided it. It was a mix of the DAT from the 1994 rebroadcast and the true FM capture from the 2010 rebroadcast, along with "Warsaw" from the early 1980's broadcast. We(the fans) will have complete access to this recording very soon. Again I know the person who provided that recording to the 'Part Time Punks" program; that is how I know. Granted he never told me, exactly what was broadcast, but it's a very logically guess that the first 14 songs were of the highest quality (1994 & 2010 rebroadcast), and since there was only 16 songs played in that set, I would assume they wouldn't of included "interzone" from the audience recording, so "Warsaw" from the early 80's broadcast makes more sense. I hope this cleared things up for everyone. Again, we will all have access to this upgraded gig soon..................cheers

Hi,

the "NMC add-ons version" ("how to complete your own official NMC "Bains-Douches" CD") and the "2010 radiobroadcast version" are available on DIME and TTD. Again, many thanks to Analog Loyalist, Viet, the 1979 audience taper, and the DAT tapers of the 1994 and 2001 radiobroadcasts.
Oh and thanks to Sousourn ^_^

See You
