Yes, just new bootleg LP, but same old material.

Yes, it's a hand screened cover. The company that does these, do all the covers themselves.

I also noticed the follow up to the Ideal for killing, but it has no information what is on it. Maybe Erik has that one?.

The 'Ideal For Killing' LP is a right old hotch potch of stuff in no great order, except for 'Inside The Line (Rehearsal)', with the rather detailed info:

A1: Rehearsalroom above Black Swan Pub, near Weaste Bus Depot, Salford 8-9.77

Now, how do they know this?

It's common knowledge that the Black Swan was used as a rehearsal space around that time and after the Middlesborough leak, I'd say someone has pinpointed the rehearsal was before the rock garden because of the song composition.

For it to have a specific date could mean that one of the band members contributed this info (maybe it was written on the tape itself?) or one of their close pals who were in attendance?

I'd love to know where the information came from as well amigo. I've been trying to create a detailed timeline for quite some time and it doesnae help when things like this appear. The only people that could possibly know for sure are the band and their mates, as we've seen in various interviews, unless there is a date written down on these tapes/documents, it's all guess work. No-one can remember specific dates from 30+ years ago. I have trouble remember what I was doing this time last week!

We have had a couple of lads on this site over the years, who could have proved invaluable for this kind of info, but they've been scared off. Bedge in particular with his three line reviews of the very early gigs were brilliant (even if he couldn't name the songs, the descriptions of the venue and camaraderie between a group of close pals from school were a joy) he also posted early tickets and proof of the earliest Warsaw demo if memory serves.

I'd love to be able to interview someone like that over a beer or two......alternatively I'd love to see exactly what Stephen and Hooky have in their collections. It'd be great for everything to be catalogued once and for all.

But then, maybe that would remove the mystique.

I would bet money that "Inside The Line", was sourced from the Jon Savage Tape. With that said, that date (not location) does seem like a guess. And to be honest, I totally disagree with that date based solely on the delivery of the song. And if you compare it with other Rehearsal material from Sept/Aug (on the new Warsaw Bootleg), and the Middlesbrough gig, Ian’s lyric delivery on “Inside The Line” doesn’t add up to Sept or Aug of 1977.

It’s more likely that it’s from Oct, Nov, or early Dec of 1977. Ian’s vocal delivery on “Inside The Line” fits more with the “Ideal for Living” phase they went through, instead of the Middlesbrough/Warsaw demo/Electric circus sounding early phase.

Not sure we will ever know for sure........

Your so right Isolated. It would be brilliant to know for sure. To have people like bedge around to verify these kind of things, instead of us guessing. A shame he was scared off because he had a rare tape, and didn’t share.

You’re right, the mystique is such a huge part of JD.

''100% of the profits from this auction will be donated to aid the causes of epilepsy and abused children, at Peter Hook's request.''

The info is on the sleevenotes - just got my copy.

They write a small biog with an intriguing statement

"A stylistic reorientation occurred later, first discernible in August '78 with the creation of songs like "Exercise One", which is widely considered the first genuine Joy Division track."

Widely considered? By whom? Going by the lyrics in Deborah Curtis' book I felt "Exercise One" arose from a Warsaw song called "Conditioned" (despite the flurry of stuff being unearthed this is still elusive)

Who knows exactly what the first "genuine" Joy Division track was? There probably wasn't one you could pin down anyway.

One correction - Erik's statement about the rehearsal coming from the podcast is not on the album sleevenotes - but he is indeed correct.

This is not the same "Inside The Line" featured on "The Leaders Of Men"

I agree with Darkman that the sleevenotes on the LP dating this version as 8-9/79 is probably wrong - it'll be later than that.

Mostly from the insert accompanying the LP as lee correctly assumed, I listened to all the songs to check if the information was correct, and it seems to be. I compared the rehearsal version of "Inside The Line" with the 2009 podcast and it's the same recording. As lee stated it's different from the rehearsal version on the "Leaders Of Men" CD.

I got mine off Ebay, I'm sure it'll turn up there again. No idea how many copies were pressed. I wouldn't say it's worth the hassle, as you put it.

It's said to be 500 numbered copies. Mine has no number. Is this a surplus copy? Anyone got an idea?
