Very surprised nobody over here is talking about this.

http://www.recordstoreday.co.uk/exclusive-product.aspx

New Order / Joy Division
Ceremony / In A Lonely Place
New Order:
a: Ceremony (Original Version)
b: In A Lonely Place (12" Version)
Joy Division:
a: Ceremony (Previously released Heart & Soul rehearsal version)
b: In A Lonely Place (Unreleased take from a recording of a Joy Division rehearsal session)

All tracks remastered by Stephen Morris and Frank Arkwright 2011.
All artwork direction by Peter Saville.
(LTD: 1000)
Label: Rhino

I believe record Store day is April 16th. From what I can tell, it’s limited edition run of 1000. And if it is a limited run, I wanted all my fellow JD friends to know all about this. This is the most important JD release since the H&S Box-Set!

Hi,

so this is an official release ? The three boys gave the permission ?

Do we have more info on the "In A Lonely Place" take ?
Could it be the rumored complete version that was partly released on "Heart & Soul" ?

No CD-single version planned ?

See You

Vince

Very interesting that Steve seems to be in charge of this one.

Hopefully they won't have done all that remastering to only release it as a vinyl single (max 1000).

Does this mean it contains a complete recording of "IALP" with Ian on vocals? - not the faded out version of the Heart and Soul - Boxset?

Where's Darkman when we need him?
Were you who lent your tape to Steve? I already know that you give a copy of it to Hooky with Pictures in my Mind.

It turned out what I was given was not ultimately sourced from Mr. Morris’s private collection; I was given false information when I received the tape. The source of what I was given ultimately came from elsewhere. Sorry I have to protect the confidentiality of certain parties.

Also Hooky was given a copy of that material long before I came along. All I did was give Hooky the lyrics so he could unveil the song live; which has since turned into him recording a polished studio version. Can’t wait to hear Hooky's new EP by the way. Should sound amazing.

I can confirm (after speaking to Hooky) the JD rehearsal take that will be found on this single is a complete version of ‘In A Lonely Place”. I can also confirm both JD songs found on this single will be stunning as far as SoundQuality; night and day to what is found on the H&S Box-Set. Again this is the most important JD release since the H&S Box-Set!

I hope this helped clear up some questions about the single.

So where can you buy this new release from?

I notice that there is a list of 180 participating stores. I wonder if all of them will have the Joy Division release. Will be a blast from the past actually going to a record shop to buy a release!

Available in participating UK stores only. Record Store day releases may be made available outside of the UK dependent upon record label policy.

If you live in the UK, I would contact the stores on the list, that are closest to you. With the release a week away, I would assume that these stores would already know what kind of inventory is coming in. 1,000 LP's spread out amongst 180 stores would leave each store getting 5 to 6 records; it’s possible that not every store is getting them in? I would start with calling!

If you live outside the UK, again I would start contacting the stores and see if it’s possible to buy a copy and have it shipped to you. Not sure what the record label policy is on them being sold then shipped outside the UK.

After ringing around ALL of my local stores (within 30 miles ) I found out not one of them will be Stocking or Ordering the Joy Division release,Let alone many of the others except ,Queen, Bruce Springsteen and British Sea Power !!
The Turnip that runs one shop here in the West Country reckons he would not get any of the more collectable ones ,Saying they will be distributed to  shops with a bigger turn over.
So its Rough Trade or Fickin eBay trawling thru the profiteers.

The whole point of Record Store Day is to get people to go into their local record shop and physically buy something, so a download would make no sense..

Excited about this, hopefully it's a complete JD take of the song and Darkman's right about the sound quality on Ceremony being better than the Heart and Soul version.

Will be great to finally hear the full version of 'In a lonely place'.

There will be plenty of knobs ripping it straight from the vinyl and uploaded on the net for all the download pirates as soon as it comes out I'm sure........

i would also be so pleased if some of you in the UK could possibly buy a copy of this...
i am also interested in some other items (as The Smiths-The Queen is Dead, Explosions in the Sky-Take Care, Take Care, Take Care, Echo & the Bunnymen-The Killing Moon, Esben and the Witch-Chorea), but i understand that i am asking too much...

In actual fact it’s quite hard to get hold of this stuff even in the UK, as it’s all very limited runs and there are so few actual shops left!

Found a couple of record stores near me that are participating, going to be heading there at 9am on Saturday, hope that they'll have it in...

It'll be the first 12" I've ever bought!

yes i understand this, it was only a silly try, of course!

what i do not understand is the Limited issue  thing...this will only benefit people that are not interested in the record but in making money out of it, selling it on ebay, discogs or wherever else...so why no print more records, as this will benefit the record shops themselves, which should be the purpose of this event...
or maybe there's something i dont catch, and i'm wrong.

I couldn't agree more. My local shop opened at 8.00am this morning, and at 9.15am there was a queue of about 30 people still waiting to get in, on the off chance of buying something that they will probably have on e-bay before the end of the day. How does that help either the record shops or the real music fans?

Edit: Just checked e-bay, and the record day exclusive is already up for sale! Obviously purchased by a real fan, eh?
