Completely finished as in have you completed your work on them, or did the Youtuber receive copies of them before you were done (by this, I mean, are you still mastering them)?

How exactly has this youtube poster got hold of this material?

From a dirty backstabbing cunt!

Does this mean you let those recordings out to someone, and they let you down and circulated them further?

I have my suspensions, but within the last day I’m starting to 2nd guess who I thought it was. Frankly I’m confused as to exactly how they got out? Quite a few people have them. Someone betrayed the trust vested in them!

Drew, so when can we see a full release of these demo's + the RSD version?

It's a shame that this whole thing has become something of a clusterfuck.  Oh, wait a minute it must be an official Factory release afterall then!

To be honest, listening to the proper full length version of 'In A Lonely Place (Take 5)' on Youtube has left me with an immense feeling of sadness. Not because of Ian's heartbreaking vocals, but because of the whole sorry way this release has been handled.

I've been listening to JD since 1979, when I used to sneak a listen to my brother's copy of Unknown Pleasures when he went out. And now we've reached what's really the last JD song, haven't we? OK, 'Tension' might find it's way out at some point, or another 'gem' like 'Pictures In My Mind' might turn up, but really the full version of 'IALP' marks the end of JD in every sense, doesn't it?

And the fact that it's been put out in such a shoddy way, and the only way I can even listen to it is via a different take posted by some scarily obsessive guy on Youtube (who to be fair has at least made it available) rather than being able to legally download the 'proper' single version is just a joke. But a joke JD fans have had to put up with for years, due to the appalling way their back catalogue has been handled. Sad.

A very sad affair; I’m gutted over this. I’m not gutted that this material is now being heard by the fans, but over how it was released; that Youtuber is a f**king joke; who-ever shared with him is even worse. I would love to know (for sure) who broke the trust vested in them.

I feel at some point the rest of the set would of possibly been an official release.

I sent Hooky an email earlier to inform him of this depressing turn of events; I dread his reaction when I hear back from him tomorrow morning. I know he will be very upset over this. Truly disappointing.

i think now Rhino records should have understood that a re-issue of Ceremony/IALP could be a great business; therefore i am hoping and waiting to see their next move.
Anyway, i am NOT going to buy the original one on ebay, cause i do not want to give my money to people that are speculating on this sort of things.

The important thing here is that surely somebody owns the rights to these recordings (Rhino, remaining members of Joy Division?) and therefore should act accordingly by simply removing the copyrighted material from this dickheads youtube account.

Perhaps Hooky's new Hacienda label could put IALP out instead.  I'm sure he would do a much better job than Rhino's half assed effort.

Yes, I think that email is pretty much guaranteed to stir up more bad feeling...

Has anyone else got any bright ideas on how to make things worse?

Hooky could always re-record IALP with Rowetta on vocals for his next 'Hits' EP?

I wouldn't have thought it being on Youtube would put people off from buying the official release if it ever happens. But how long would we be waiting for the latter anyway - nothing seems to be happening about releasing PlanK on dvd or even reshowing the film for instance. In the absence of any official release of these rehearsal versions, well done to the guy for sharing new music with us, especially if the eventual official release is going to be another vinyl-only job (my last record player went in the skip about 20 years ago).

Our YouTube friend could post another version of it?

Oh...he just has.

So by my reckoning, we've now got versions 1, 2 & 5 on YouTube, and 4 on EBay (er, I mean vinyl). Which means that our little friend is probably pasting his photos together right now for his version 3 video...

How can there be an objection to this guy?  Hello, anyone outside the UK had no chance to get the split 12" other than via extortionate eBay pricing.  All the more ironic because I live in LA, home of Rhino Records, yet they can't even be arsed to put out a US version of said record.

We're all saddo obsessives anyway, if it's out there we'll buy it anyway - the idea that this guy on YouTube is cannibalizing potential sales is ludicrous.  Mountains from molehills.

I don't think anyone's upset with the material being out per se, I know for myself it's the presentation of it. There are a number of blogs that could actually do it, you know, justice with historical background etc. Not the pure assholish attitude of the YooToob'er.

I have asked certain "Important Persons" if there are any plans for the JD half of the RSD 12" to see more widespread official release. If I get an answer I am at liberty to share, I will.

This won’t be the first time I have said this; but I firmly believe that Mr. Hook has every right to know what is being done with unreleased material he owns part of the rights to. It’s that simple.

And if I knew the other two; I would inform them.

I’m quite sure certain parties have notified official sources. It’s the right thing to do! If you owed the rights to that music, would you not want to know what that ass-clown was doing; with you‘re music? Especially considering the history of IALP set.

Take whatever cheap shots you want at Hooky, all you guys see is the public side; he is a 1st class person worthy of more respect then he gets from some of the douche bags that roam these kinds of forums.

And surprisingly, he took it in stride. So no, him knowing will not make the situation worse.

Agree entirely. If we objected to bootlegs/songs being made available unofficially we would have missed out on a huge amount of JD material in the past (and in fact still would be). It's the way this guy does it that bugs me - he's essentially claiming credit for other people's work (e.g. the cleaning up of the recordings Drew did) and his attempts at 'enhancing' or 'improving' the tracks are just laughable. And the 'full length versions' he created before getting his hands on the complete songs were just horrible

Seems like IALP is already on youtube, although sound quality is questionable. Or is it actual release quality?

I don't think it's a waste of time at all, because it promotes and supports record stores around the World on record store day. Remember records anyone, that's how it all began? I know a lot of people who own record stores, and they are struggling to survive. This day emphasises the importance of record stores and fuck this downloading shit..............

Sorry mate but that’s half the problem – people are trying to hang onto the past and keep alive an industry (Record Shops) that are clearly no longer a going concern in the globalised capitalist market we have created.

It gives me no pleasure to say that as I spent a vast part of my life in record shops, and it’s a part of my culture that I sadly miss.

If RSD actually kept them alive then I’d be more supportive, but there are so few record shops left that it’s become another free market lesson for us all. The eBayers/resellers are the only winners now. It’s become a mockery of what it set out to do.

The world moves on. It’s a digital age. People might not like it but I’d rather be progressive and accept when things aren’t working
