eBay has several of these 12" on Sale now,There are a few up for auction and a few `buy it now` options.
I caved in and paid £30.00 in total to a geezer in Essex ,No way of getting one here in the South West of England so time to take it or leave it !
Now can I re-sell it for more

I agree with earlier comments about the limited edition. I called in Wall of Sounds Huddersfield yesterday and they said they would have 10 copies but that they were expecting a bit queue and they knew some were going to arrive very early. I am glad they were honest with me, but if they had just been able to say yes they were stocking it from today, I would have gone and bought one. I wasn't interested in going to queue just because it's a limited edition.

Got it - but it was hell. Got to Rough Trade East at 8am - already 200 people there ahead of me - the first apparently got there at 9pm last night! Shop opened at 9:25 - didn't get in shop til 10:10, whereupon a shop asst told me the last one had gone. Walking out disconsolate I saw one on its own - resting on top of a display of boxes of headphones for sale! Got into queue at 10:20 - wasn't served until 11:10!

There were plenty of people with baskets full of records. Ok - you could only have one copy per record, and this was adhered to - but seeing the sheer diversity of music and the people buying these truckloads meant only one thing - Record Store Day is a market for ebay sellers - and no, I ain't selling mine.

As I left the queue to get in the shop was still snaking around the corner.

Info: The run out groove messages are written in different writing to the original FAC 33 - and the B-Side msg is slightly different.....

A) Watching Forever
B) How We Wish You Were Here With Us Now

And - to clarify the info on the site - it's 800 copies only - not 1000

Got the last one in Leamington Spa via my other half's daughter who went into work early to get it! She just missed out on the last one in one of the two Leamington record store day shops but luckily the other one had a copy left.

I'm not selling mine either...unlike the 25 that are currently up for sale on eBay.

So - has anyone listened to it yet? What's the sound quality like compared to Heart & Soul ?

glad to see that they saw sense and released the full version of this tune (i always thought the obvious edit on heart + soul was a bit of a cop out, why include it at all?)   also if they pressed 800 (or 1000) andas far as I can tell at the moment less than 10 seem to be selling on ebay I dont think it can just be opportunists buying these things so mostly "real" fans must have bought it too by the looks of things as I reckon it probably would have sold out, although I didnt buy it so when it turns up on youtube give us a shout !

Got mine today also. Happened to be back in England to run London Marathon tommorow. Arrived at Letchworth store at 7:30am behind a queue of 50-100 people, was very pessimistic about my chances. Store opened at 8:00am, got in around 8:20am and almost the first cardboard sleeve I looked at was it. Very pleased.

Even if I lived in the UK I'd have to have a record player to listen to this... does anyone know if there'll be a CD or a digital release (iTunes) of this 12''?

It's everywhere for download already. I don't get this new download trend of getting it up on the net straight away, it's like you're a real winner if you get it up first! Well done losers.....

Are you sure?  I can't find it anywhere.. Seeing as the single is sold out now, anybody care to stick up a link, for those of us who were unlucky enough to not be living in the UK or who were beaten by the queues?

So is ANYBODY going to actually listen to the record or did they just buy it as a collector item? I'm really interested to hear about the quality of the remastering (if any) on Ceremony.

I do not understand the market nowadays (and Rhino particularly) with these releases. Targeting to ebayers rather than the real fans, what's the point? Limited releases sold for around £15 on brick shops are then sold for 2,5x - 3x on ebay the same day! Ebayers profit more than the company itself (not to mention the artists themselves...).

Look Rhino if you're reading this, you have to start thinking about changing your marketing policies and target the real fans rather than the ebayers! This is one of those cases that I am in favour of a massive download just to reduce the profits from ebayers (profits that we real fans have to support and that will not go to the artists)!

Think about selling these records through your site directly to the fans and with reruns rather than limited runs to keep prices under control!

Just my thoughts...

like i said there dosent seem to be that many copies out of 800 (or a thousand) floating around on ebay as far as I can tell. altho I did notice somebody is selling one for a hundred quid !
But if most  people were buying them purely for the profit they probably would put them up on ebay as soon as possible while its a wanted/new item and before the mp3s surface . I dont see how a record label can target "real" fans and make sure opportunists dont buy the records anyway, and the artists make however much money off the sale from the shop which is the same as its always been. a lot of records in the 80s would probably have ended up in second hand stores and the artists wouldnt have made money off the resale either, ebay just makes it more visible (and profitable probably) . Also how much money can people really expect from releasing some shoddy (but interesting) rehearsal tapes that are 30+ years old anyway ? all in all I think the  fans are the ones who get the most out of it by hearing probably the  last unreleased thing to do with this group, along with the record stores getting people in the shop, which is really what the whole thing is about.

Also wheres the downloads at ? I cant find it

No embossing or anything like that - looks like it was done to budget (uniquely!)

@PusherMan,

That's why there are marketing directors, to think about ways of making more money out of each release. If fans are willing to pay that extra money for a specific release, why not think of a way to get more cash?

Imagine you were the owner of Rhino Records. You released a record that sold out on day one. Good. But you see the price escalate on ebay that same day (not in ten years), and still with high demand. "Hmmm...why didn't I think of that? I could have earned more cash if I had priced it higher or made a bigger number of records!".

Suggestions:

i) make auctions on Rhino website for really limited runs (to increase profit to the company and therefore to the artists). I believe mainly fans would get their copy (of course there would still be some opportunists, but in smaller amount, because the auction would be open to anyone worldwide rather than some dozens of stores in the UK)

ii) sell worldwide through Rhino website with small reruns to keep prices and costs controlled (e.g. first run of 800, then 400, then 150, etc, until very low or no demand at all) - I believe that the cost difference between 800 and 8000 would be the same marginally (you have higher starting costs to produce the plates and then you have much smaller production costs depending on the number of records - someone correct me if I'm wrong).

iii) sell the songs and/or full EP's/LP's exclusively online in digital form (e.g. itunes or even Rhino site).

These days (no pun intended) you have to be inventive to survive in this industry.

About record stores, unfortunately I think they'll eventually become a niche market that gets smaller by the day. I see them the way I see video stores like Blockbuster, people will still rent a video, but with all the options available nowadays, the number of people renting a video is getting smaller and is becoming a niche market.

Owners of record and video stores will have to be creative and add something to their businesses (diversifying their offer to create more demand - for example, selling clothes, drinks, creating happy hours, specializing in one trend - rock, classic, hip hop, etc, etc)

Again these are just my thoughts...

As far as there only being a few copies on ebay I count 40 sold and another 15 up for auction now. That is a good amount in just 2 days.

I'm really hoping they do what Mute did with their Nick Cave release last year and what Radiohead is doing with their new 12". They released their records as a special UK RSD release and then had another US release a couple of months later.

Overall I just really want to hear the 2 unreleased recordings so I'm also looking all over the net for them with no luck so far.

Very interesting that nobody is even talking about the most important aspect of this release; the music!

Ceremony, (Original Lyrics). Rehearsal version March/April 1980

“This is why it’s all gone unnerving
Would you say, the same old story
Notice why the wheels are turning
Turn away and turn again this time
Listen now the savior calling
Time again and we will see you
Notice that the tide walks higher
Lean again and change it’s way this time”.

“I’ll break them all, no mercy shown
Heaven knows, it’s got to crack somewhere
Watching her, a sinking ship
The times she cried, too frail to wake this time”.

“I’ll break them all, no mercy shown
Heaven knows it’s got to be somewhere
Avenues all lined with trees
Picture me, then you start watching”.

“Watching forever
Watching forever”.

“I was told, where your faith goes
Now I was told, may it be so
Truth be told, shall it be so”.

Well, I mean, the point of the Record Store Day is to get folks in the shops.

Judging by everything I've heard about long lines before shops open and such it appears it's working.

The secondary market is just a fact of life and at least will help folks who for various reasons could not get out on Saturday. As for the inflated prices: market dictates I guess.

One would SURELY assume the tunes will be released properly at some point so once I find a torrent or blog with them it will be ok for now.

In terms of numbers: the only definite pressing info I have heard for another release was 2000 and yet the RSD website lists 500 so take the 800 copies of this release with an huge huge grain of salt.

There's probably more out there rather than less.

Out of curiosity what album was that? I was under the impression that the RSD websites (.com / .co.uk) only list the quantities available in that country. So for example I could see the UK website only saying 500 if the other 1500 were going to be sold in the US/Japan etc. Otherwise that is super sketchy and only helping the people trying to flip them.

Right!

Those are the true lyrics (1st set) he wrote for Ceremony, and I like them better then the ones New Order penned! That is how good Ceremony is on this single............the lyrics are much more audible then what is on H&S.
