Hi to everyone on the board - new to JDC but not Joy Division.

I recently bought a sealed vinyl copy of Still, advertised as a mint original. Everything checks out - hessian,  run out grooves matrix no.s etc, but then it occured to me that the Rhino reissue is almost identical. Can anyone tell me a definitive way of finding out if my copy is an original or a Rhino reissue from 2007?

Thanks!
Andy

The fact that it was sealed tells you that it'll be a 2007 Rhino one.

If you want something more definitive, then look for a ten digit number on the runouts, that's a Rhino catalogue number.

I've another question regarding JD pressings:
How you can seperate an original 12" AIFL from the repros?

Here the original:
http://joydiv.org/aifl12originallabels.htm

Here a repro for example: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Joy-Division-Ideal-Living-12-Inch-Repro-Black-/390313808124?pt=UK_Records&hash=item5ae08410fc

I heard that the Groove notations are the same. And JDC does not mention this problem. Or?
Well, you can look, if the cover is yellowed over the years, but this could be a problem, if you would like to buy this record online...
Cheers

I could tell if I had them in my hand, having seen many original copies over the years, it's hard to tell from photos however.

Are these recent black vinyl ones from the same plates as the colour ones?

This is a very good question. I'm not sure. If you look at discogs, they are different pressings from 2006 and 2010. But they have the same label i think. Look here:
http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=2072368
It this is the label, and the vinyl is black, and the groove notations are the same, so it is very difficult to seperate this pressing from the original i think...

There's no mention of the Lyntone matrix numbers, perhaps they were left off?

I think its an original - no ten digit number and its not on 180 gram vinyl. Also the stickers on the shrinkwrap look really old...

The first USA repro on white vinyl from 2006 has the following groove messages:
"DON'T LET IT EVER FADE AWAY" on side A, and "I FEEL IT CLOSING IN" on side B. The UK/Euro 2011 black vinyl fake pressing doesn't have any such groove messages. The USA repro has the following matrix numbers:
A-NON-1-A (on side A), and
A-NON-1-B (on side B).
I believe all the subsequent US (re)pressings on different vinyl colours have the same groove notations and matrix numbers as the white vinyl one.
The 2011 UK/Euro pressing:
ANON 1 A-A-1 (on side A), and
ANON 1 A-B-1 (on side B). Again, the 2011 pressing doesn't have anything further in the run-off grooves, or at least my copy doesn't.
The band name & title on the spine is quite small on the US press, on the 2011 UK press the spine print size is the same as on the original.
In other words; all the US fake pressings are on coloured vinyl and easy to distinguish from the original, which is black. The 2011 UK/Euro pressing is on black vinyl, but it's missing the original run-out groove messages.
Hope this helps.
