So, I've heard from someone on this forum a rumour that this summer on some sort of festival ( I don't know the details, but I'd like to hear some, If somebody will enlighten me ) will be a possible Plan K footage showcase. Can anybody confirm or deny this?

Thank you.

My thoughts exactly, I saw it in some thread but can't find it now.

I hope this person will see this and elaborate.

Hello,
I know as much as I posted I'm afraid. I guess we'll have to keep an eye on Jon Savage's Twitter feed.

However, I've just looked at the Manchester International Festival website and there is something called True Faith, curated by Jon Savage and somebody else at the Manchester Art Gallery. It mentions New Order and Joy Division and "performance films" so maybe he is trying to get it shown at that? This True Faith appears to be an ongoing thing rather than a one-off thing.

Interesting, just read about it. I really hope it is what it is.
I will be probably visiting Manchester this summer, so I didn't want to lose that opportunity.
Thank you for that insight, wabznasm!

The True Faith Exhibition featured the complete showing of the 27 Oct Manchester Apollo set - including one song "Wilderness" that only featured on the rare "Substance" VHS promo - and three songs - "Colony", "Autosuggestion" and "Transmission" that have never been broadcast to the public before. This was shown on a loop with the widely available "Taras Shevchenko" 1981 live concert of New Order. The exhibition ended yesterday.

All the plan K footage needs to be released...surely it's only a matter of time?

Hopefully so, but we've been saying that for the last 20+ years

Of the tracks from the 28th that were not on "Here Are The Young Men", "Colony" was on the itunes version of the "+-" singles set, "24 Hours" and "Disorder" were screened in 2005 as part of the 25th anniversary event in Blackburn, and "Shadowplay" has never been screened in public.

Begs the question again of what is stopping this being issued  ... via whatever medium or format ?

Everyone knows the sound is far from ideal ... for both Plan K and both nights at the Apollo ... and the opportunity to make money from a stand alone official release is long gone ... but there are a few people who would love to see this historical footage finally see the light of day.

Are the remaining band members really that bothered by a couple of clips of 38 year old concert footage finally surfacing ???

Im presuming they must have agreed on the complete Apollo night being shown recently at the Manchester exhibition ?

Its perplexing that its still in the vaults ...or is there something im missing ??

They only showed the whole 27th apollo date at true faith. I did see some ultra rare looking performances of 'colony' 'wilderness' and 'autosuggestion' from the apollo nights. I think in time both the plan K and apollo shows in their entirety will be released as the legacy of joy divisions music keeps expanding

27th Oct - Wilderness was on the "Substance" promo - "Colony", "Autosuggestion" and "Transmission" were not aired prior to the True Faith exhibition.

A while after the Plan K abortive showing I met Stephen Morris in Rough Trade East and asked him about a re-broadcast - he rolled his eyes and got a bit agitated and grouched about red tape - he made it very clear he would love to see it broadcast but it was out of his hands.

It costs money to show anything in public, maybe the rights holder for Plan K expects a substantial payment, or would even refuse it another time?

This sort of thing limits what you can do unless there's an opportunity (with a good budget).

Licensing video from the rights holders (whoever they may be) can cost an unbelievable amount of money, money that isn't easy to recoup with DVD releases these days. Stand alone DVD releases don't have much of a market and most DVD is now bundled with audio releases/box sets, which can really limit the money available to spend on licensing as it's often hard to justify.
