Appreciated Truth [thumb]

I wonder what the licence holders take is on this scenario ... and is it Cherry Red Records that obtained the rights to the footage and thus are the licence holders?

It just seems to me that perhaps they are still holding out for mega money for this footage when the reality is its a worthless in real terms as it is priceless ?

Joy Division are one of the most influential musical artists of the 20th century. Both by listeners and critics, a highly respected band. A band with a rather big cult following. There's money to be gained here by whomever holds the rights rather than it be sitting locked away. At least that's my perspective.

That's kind of the point. Anyone who holds the rights tends to overvalue them.

I heard Stephen Morris has a copy of Plan K. Again I just read this somewhere ages ago, he let people view it at his house after an exhibition in Macclesfield that was meant to be broadcasting it got cancelled.

No he didn't let people view it - he arrived after the screening was over and mentioned that if he'd have known this to happen he would have invited people down and had the screening at his place. This was only spoken about - it didn't actually happen.

I'm also trying to be optimistic RRDENNING, but so far I've been waiting 34 years lol (as I originally bought the 'Here Are The Young Men' vhs video, with the slow-mo flip of Plan K, back in 1983!)

I think that the real problem is that these days, there ISN'T any real money to be made on any form of audio/video/studio recording, because as soon as it becomes available, (no matter how limited the initial distribution is), it'll be all over the internet in a jiffy, and from that moment onwards, bang goes the copyright holder's opportunity to make any money (as is their right). Therefore, realising this, the only way that someone in possession of a rarity can make money on it is to demand a huge sum of cash for the initial act of sharing it with someone. Unless, of course, the whole internet technlogy evolves in such a way that sharing/copying/downloading becomes restrictive. If that day ever arrives, then artists could make money from albums once again....

All the power lies with ex-associates of ikon, factory and the people who filmed. If it was better know to these people that theres a demand from fans, internationally and across the age spectrum to see all the joy divison footage that exists it could happen. Otherwise it will carry on being exhibited at various anniversary shows throughout the years..maybe all of it eventually
