well it all looks quite authentic at first glance, but when you look at the other items from the seller, big fuck off alarm bells start ringing and i have to laugh...

hmmm, many many more were printed with Emergency (the main band that night) in the lesser position, of course Chris, that sounds likely.

Trying to rewrite history again?

The fact that he did a BIN sale, then reduced it to £300, pretty much confirms the fakeness of the poster. That's not something you'd do with the real thing, you'd auction it with a large reserve and not let it go for less than £500 at least.

"To prove the provenance of these posters , I show the back of another poster the same that is signed and endorsed "great gig" by Peter Hook

Please note the Peter Hook signed poster is not for sale in this auction but one of the same age is"

Dear oh dear.

The only wear to the poster seems to be the tears to the corners. Artificial tears I would imagine.

Was this one Hewitt?

The fact that the seller also had some Billy Fury auctions on the go would seem to point the finger..

Hey, thats one of ours, the obvious mistake gives it away as the fake it is, £300 jeez - a fool and his money....

I believe this is the night 'Transmission' got it's first live airing, a gig which in my opinion signalled the birth of something new. Since that Rafters gig the band had been very busy rehearsing and generally keeping a low profile whilst Rob scuttled about Davidson's like the March Hare. As we knew the lads well and had worked with them on both the Pips and Bowdon Vale gigs prior to this night they asked if they could play support on this gig to gauge reaction, the first step in Rob's master plan

You can confirm that the following isn't true then:

Quote:
There were only a few of this gig poster apparently printed where Joy Division were featured as the main band. Many more were printed with Emergency as the main band

Hi Truth, yes I can confirm that all the posters printed up for this gig had Emergency as the 'headliner's',
Flyers were printed in both Black and White (crap, I shouldn't have said that? they'll be photocopying as I type) and a colour similar to the fake.

I'll contact the seller myself and point out their, er, mistake.

I've put a copy of the original poster (I don't have one myself) on the Manchester Music Archive along with a warning regarding the fake, I've also contacted the seller (we own the copyright to this poster, which he has infringed by altering the image) and suggested that he offers the buyer a complete refund.

The poster is included in the JD documentary, (the film makers graciously asked for permission for its use)

I should mention the the seller insists that the item is genuine, and that the person who 'gave' them to him has a stack of them that he obtained during his time working at the Mayflower.
A couple of things wrong with that statement, first and foremost being the fact that the poster / flyer was never printed with Joy Division as the head-liner, the second point being that this Mayflower 'worker' has shown remarkable restrain by holding back on his cache of (so-called) posters for 33 years.

The seller 'muzicsella456', assures me that he will not sell another one of these 'posters', and that he has doesn't have any left - which contradicts his previous reply

I think that these 'flyers' may crop up elsewhere.

Odd that someone at the Mayflower should have a stack of them (all unused of course), yet this one has been 'aged' with corner rips etc.

...here's another odd one from Chris Hewitt, a poster I've never seen before, in what appears to be good condition, for a buy-it-now of £590. It doesn't ring true to me, anyone else ever seen this before?

"apparently only 10 survived" - so we'll no doubt be seeing them appear on sale too. How would anyone know that?

I think Punkrockposters were taken for a ride on this earlier one too, along with the (probably) made up story about it.

After some investigation I can now confirm that the eBay seller of the Emergency / Joy Division / Mayflower faked up poster was in fact Ozit.

The copy for sale on Punkrock posters has now been withdrawn from their website - unfortunately this was the same poster purchased on ebay at great expense.

I'm in a mood for taking legal action if I see one more of these fuking posters for sale and people getting ripped off. Hopefully this will be the last time we see this bloody forgery.

I may do a limited re-print (the correct version) and sell at a nominal price, with the proceeds doing some good, this might end this nonsense once and for all. any thoughts?
