I queued from 1am!

I did want the Factory 78-92 thing but it hadn't arrived when I got to the counter.

Anything extra on it we haven't heard before? If not - what's the point?

Just read that the vinyl will consist of the masters of the AIFL tracks used on the "+ -" box set.

Facebook entry says it will be a brand new remaster done by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road. So not the same remaster as the +/- set.

Record Store Day Newbie here...

I have been aware of RSD in recent years, but how does it actually work? I know that stores aren't allowed to reserve for customers etc.

I have spoken to Independent Record store near me who are taking part, but the guy who is involved with RSD was not available. How do I know if they are even likely to get the JD release?

Is it just a question of queue early and take my chances? Am I better off trying my 'local' store, or do I need to be at somewhere like Sister Ray in London to stand a chance?

I have had a look at the Record Store Day site, but it doesn't seem to answer the above questions....

Not the end of the world if I am not successful, but it would be a nice addition to the collection.

Queue early is the only way I know. Saying that though last time I went to do it two years ago there was a queue of a 100 or so outside Piccadilly records so I gave it a miss. It has lost its charm since it started with a vast number of so called limited editions and the smaller shops not getting the better ones .
If you have unlimited funds then e bay is your best bet .

seem to be going around £25 mark. what was original cost?
i do like the cover but trackwise nothing new for me.
RSD seems to have turned into profit making day for the ebayers
of the UK. disappointing

It's the cynical nature of RSD that really gets on my tits. I know for a fact one avaricious dealer queued up with a bunch of his equally odious mates - as they did last year - in order to secure as many copies of AIFL as he could, all of which are destined for ebay and upcoming record fairs. Yes, we've all got a living to make, no, this sort of behaviour doesn't exactly qualify as a war crime but it still makes me grind my f*****g teeth.

....and to date I've spotted online no less than 117 copies for sale/auction, a mere 24 hours after closure of business. The prosecution rests its case.

There's loads of copies so the Ebay price should fall.

When I put the info on the front page of JD Central the Rhino web site said 7,500 copies and now it says 13,500

Joy Division, An Ideal for Living
12-inch 33RPM vinyl
Limited edition of 13,500 copies, $14.98

Maybe there were 7,500 copies in the US and 6.000 in other countries to explain the two figures. Either way it will be interesting to see if the prices drop over the nexy few days

I was gonna buy that Pistols singles set but read there were 5000, not that limited. Now I've read there are 750 but as above maybe that's worldwide

Assuming none of us has the desire to queue up overnight keeping a look out on e bay is probably the only option for getting a RSD item we want.
Based on previous years the prices are crazy if you try and get one off e bay straight away. If you leave it a few weeks the price comes down.
E bay seller store1988 listed hundreds of RSD items including 25 AIFLs so clearly in the USA he found it easy to get stock. His price was 19.99 dollars and of course international postage to Uk coming out at 21.41 pounds.

I was under the impression the chief point of RSD was to relive - or experience first time - the excitement of a fan buying a 'new' record by their favourite combo on its day of release, and actually taking the physical trouble to do so. Naturally we're all obliged to some extent in relying upon the web - that's where we'll find 90% of new bootlegs for example; I know of only one store round here still selling them openly, 25 years ago you could take yer pick.

But I'm an old bastard, things have changed. Waited outside Woolworth's on a frosty March morning in 1981 to secure a brand-spanking 'Ceremony' 7" (itself a victim of RSD some 30 years later) believing I'd be fighting my way through a rugby scrum. I was the only bleeder there. A fortnight later they had maybe fifty copies untidily piled up in the 'remainder rack', each and every one marked down at half-price with a deletion punch-hole straight through that beautiful gold embossed sleeve. Sacrilege.

Now, I've stated elsewhere on JD Central I think it's splendid both Joy Division/New Order, most importantly the former, are now accessible (or let's say more widely available) to the world and his dog, but the mercenary attitude of these 'in-crowd' dealers with their grubby fingers 'on the pulse' buying up multiples of a release so they can make a healthy killing only hours later on the net, well, it makes a mockery of the whole bloody job.

I'm sure 'AIFL' was reissued in good faith. Bernard once stated "We don't want a loyal, dedicated, we'll-buy-anything following. If people like a song, buy it. If you don't like it, don't buy it. It's the only principle we've ever worked on."  (BBC2, 'Riverside', 1983) Sadly, human nature works otherwise. And the dealers know it only too well.
