Hey guys, hope everyone is ok. I did post the same topic in another forum just in case it gets overseen hope its ok to repeat it here. I am hoping that you guys could help me out a bit. After finding out about the new LP reissues being released this june and july 2015 i found myself looking for a simple answer to a question I'm sure has been answered but id just like a straight forward, clear answer and of course theres no right or wrong but its clearly down to personal opinions and experience.

Now i do own the originals but would like to give them a rest every now and then so my question is, what is the difference between the 2007 and the 2015 rhino reissues of UP and closer regarding the cover, inners and of course the sound. Apparently the 2015 versions will sound the same as the 2007 release but since i haven't seen the latter version in person or seen much info on the 2015 versions, which would be the better replica of originals to purchase? Also would you guys recommend getting the still and substance 2015 reissues?

Thanks very much guys for any info and help you can provide, i do appreciate it!

G

I have my suspicions about these reissues. The "In Memory" box set was released in 2007, and has never really increased its value on the auction sites. There was a supposed "reissue" of this for Record Store Day in the US in 2010, but it looks as if all they did was to resubmit the shops with unsold stock.

The press release for the new reissues IMHO seems to be clumsily trying to disguise the fact that the same is happening here with the reissues of "Unknown Pleasures", "Closer" and "Still". They state that the mixes on these took place in 2007 without alluding to the fact that this was also the year of the last reissues. So - it begs the question - old stock again?

I have pre-ordered the "Substance" vinyl because it has never been available in double vinyl and of course "As You Said" and the Pennine LWTUA are now included. Again - the press release states these are 2010 mixes - which means that this is highly likely the "+ -" box set repackaged without the needless and misleading additions of "Isolation" and "Heart And Soul".

I'll need a fair bit of convincing my theory about old stock is incorrect before going for the other three.

They've all been re-cut for this round of reissues, though using the same original master as the 2007 issues. Substance uses the work done on the 2010 box set.

So - just thinking of an example - is the ending of "I Remember Nothing" on the latest batch the haphazard one that was featured on the 2007 issue or have they reverted back to the natural fade on the original?

Probably, unless the fade was done at the cut.

Is it a noticeable thing?

There are a few obsessives like me who have noticed - nothing really too troubling LOL

UP and Closer reissues were released today. If anyone here bought them - is there any difference - sound or artwork-wise - to the 2007 releases?

OK - as there were no responses (ans as I found myself in a record shop LOL) I took one for the team as it were and bought a copy of the UP reissue.

Haven't played it yet, but the new issue has a download code with it (mp3 - natch), both labels and the spine of the sleeve have the added credit - P & C 2015 Warner Records 90 Ltd, and the most telling of all is the catalogue number on the spine and the sleeve is

FACT 10R.
