Well, if it's as shoddily done as The Smiths 7" & CD singles box sets on Rhino from a couple of years ago then it'll be worth passing on it. Here's hoping that's not the case.

Thanks for the heads-up - I have updated the main site. This is interesting as Lee was telling me about this a few months ago and as nothing happened I assumed it was never going to happen. 5000 copies in total seems like an awful lot to me but I've ordered one of the 500 copy deluxe version.

I wonder what is on the Promo CD's, that come with the Deluxe Edition. Here is the problem I have with this release; yeah great you remastered them from the original tapes, yeah great we get new artwork, but we get the same music, yet again! The band members need to dig into there tape collections at this point for ANY further JD releases to be worth it. The same old tired material yet again...........come on. Come clean with remastered and unreleased material. Whether they are gigs or rehearsal material. They HAVE unreleased material in there collections, that fans would like to hear and own. I would buy this in a second if it came with two, hell even one, unreleased gig. WTF...........................A lot of fans don't even have record players. They should of done a Deluxe Edition of "Substance", with a bonus disc or disc's of unreleased material. That would of fit nicely with the 2007 reissues. Don't get me wrong, I love that there hearts are in the right place.....but they don't have their fingers on the pulse of the die-hard fans. They should of taken a hard look at how Robert Smith does all the Cure's reissues, with the bonus disc or disc's, having nothing but unreleased material. Demo's, rehearsal's, unreleased songs............... I'm very disappointed.

The "Heart & Soul" is the old 4cd boxset given another flogging The singles set was supposed to be out in July It's quite daft the way they've tried to stretch it out to ten - cutting AIFL in half, making the Earcom2 tracks a single, combining 2 B-Sides together for single 9, and (apparently this was Steve Morris' choice) taking two Closer tracks for single ten!

The more I read about this the more it's reminding me of the aforementioned Smiths CD singles box set (on Rhino) and that set's slipshod production. Obviously I haven't seen the finished item yet but the apparent tracklisting (and the way it's been compiled) seems nonsensical.

Rant 2: Granted I want the band to get paid for their music, but f**k give us something new.....................................If there would of been new material, I would of dished out twice what they are asked for that! And the new material doesn't even have to be good Sound-quality; just as long as it's something I haven't heard. Did I mention how disappointed I am?

"Did I mention how disappointed I am?" Rhino - guaranteed to disappoint (lately). Ask any fan of The Smiths, New Order, The Stooges or The Doors etc.

Ok, so this is 75 quid...I'm just a little concerned about the quality of presentation at this price, given what Rhino did with the overpriced vinyl box. But I should probably shut up and wait to see what comes out on Dec 6. The Recycle Project has set expectations in my mind, if only as the "fantasy football league" of a deluxe JD singles collection....
Anyway, the Recycle guys' work gives this set a lot to live up to, sonically. Does anyone know whether new remastering has been done for this issue? or is this just the leftovers etc. from the 2007 remasters?

Morris and Frank Arkwright did the "re"mastering. Arkwright did the Sound Of The Smiths mastering, and, well, I'll just bite my tongue. Except that the fact Recycle product wasn't "released" on 7" (in this fashion obviously), I don't think the Recycle guys will have much to be afraid of with this.

I'm quite sure there will be much moaning about this set, it's what we've come to expect. The mastering's rubbish, where are the rarities, you've missed tracks out etc etc. JD couldn't really do a singles set in the way other band do as their singles were a haphazard affair originally, no doubt AIFL was split up for audio reasons (one track per side, not two), and so they could reference the artwork of both the 7" and the 12". Also Lee, SLC (re-recording) was an A side in the US (yet another anomaly). At least for once the band might actually get some money from a JD release, the market is full of nothing but bootlegs.

Truth - granted, SLC was a US A-Side - but why take two album tracks to make a 10th "single"? To be completist they could have made a couple of more singles from the extra tracks of the 1988 Atmosphere and 1995 LWTUA reissues - or alternatively left it at 9.

I've ordered the Deluxe set too. Am I reading the description right - "All music" is on CD i.e all the tracks that are on the vinyl singles will be replicated on the provided CDs? Also I take it there is no track list available yet for this set?

As I don't own a record player and we are in hard times I can't see how I can justify shelling out for this to have it sat unplayed in a cupboard. It seems a bit mean not to say what is on the two Promotional' cd's which are one of the two differences between standard and deluxe, likewise what exactly the Peter Saville art piece is.

Exactly........what is one the Promo CD's?????????? That is the upgrade for the Deluxe Edition, but yet it remains a mystery...........lmfao. If I have a guess, I would say it is "Unknown Pleasures" and "Closer"; and if your lucky they are remastered from the original tapes........bollocks

I thought that all the music (from the 7" singles) is on the Cds (I can't be bothered to work out if all the songs hold on one CD; although knowing them the A-sides are on the + CD and the B-sides are on the (drum roll) ... - CD : "Clamshell box with 10 7”s, Exclusive piece of Art by Peter Saville and Studio Parris Wakefield and all music on CD. Free UK Delivery. STRICTLY 500 COPIES ONLY."

Appick - Yes I think you are probably spot on with your view on what the 2 Cds contain. My guess is that the exclusive Saville art is the orange card with the + - design on. If you click on the Deluxe set this orange card appears but not on the standard set. ...and sorry General Craig I have spotted the Tracklist now (not the best webpage design though).
