I hate to burst the bubble of those buying for "investment purposes", but being sealed and not sealed, does effect the value of the item considerably!

If you have purchased it to play, please skip over my post!

People buying more than one copy meant that I couldnae get ma hands on a Deluxe version as the buggers were all sold out.

So I have no sympathy at all with those people

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately sometimes) lots of people are re-sellers on eBay/Amazon/Discogs, buying more than one of limited things to profit on later.

In one sense it's a bad thing 'cos they push prices up and it's a bit mercenary, on the other hand perhaps their activities help keep sales figures up and therefore perhaps even small labels in business (I'm not really counting Warners in this category)? Quite often I've missed out on stuff that I can pick up later on Discogs from these people.

I must say after the New Order fiasco I'm surprised that so many of you bought the item sight unseen!

Like, I would not even think about purchasing a big-ticket Rhino item anymore until I read extensive reviews beforehand.

I won't be buying another Rhino JD/NO product again.

The trouble was if you wanted the deluxe you had to order sharpish otherwise you would have missed out. You could not afford to wait for reviews as you knew they'd all go fast.

I hear ya. Yeah, a bit of a tought spot. I still think I might have waited a bit and paid a premium on the secondary market if I had to. I suppose there is not much more coming down the pipes so it's probably a moot point.

My deluxe box set arrived today and it is so so shit, I went straight to the post office in the snow and ice and handed it over to go back to sender.
I understand, I will get a full refund to spend on something more worthy than that poor quality, not fit for purpose, box of shite.  Tis not the season of JOY to all men....then.

I too have the standard set instead of the Deluxe and have received the email promising to send on the extra bits.

Providing they do that then I'm happy.

That sounds a bit disappointing Kraftwerk. I haven't opened mine yet ... what's the problem with it?

I think it's fair game that Rhino/Warner have owned up to the mess they've created and have promised to make up for it. If that doesn't take them too long I'm fine with the situation... even though I still think that this strictly limited edition idea stinks: why not give every fan an equal and fair chance to own his favourite artist's latest release? People who happened to be away for the couple of days that the Deluxe edition was available - ONLINE ONLY, it should be stressed - or who missed the news by a couple of days simply didn't stand a chance...

The irony of it all is that this frankly amateuristic handling of the set's distribution has turned the attention away from the fact that the actual songs appear to have been mastered properly, this time round (but then, JD's latest releases have consistently fared better in this respect than NO's).

If it wasn't particularly limited then they wouldn't sell in any great rush. I think you can easily pick up the LP box set still (and yes, it's overpriced and features somewhat empty artwork!).

I understand the strategic reasoning from the record company point of view perfectly (shift a lot of units in a minimum of time, with - ahem - minimal storage issues), it's just fundamentally unfair to the general fanbase of the artists concerned.

I feel incredibly naive when rereading that last sentence, but there you go...

Rhino clearly learnt their lesson from the LP box set, which was WAY overpriced, offered WAY too little in compensation ("distinctive NON artwork", anyone?) and hence still hasn't exhausted its run of 3,000. Both the Deluxe and Standard singles sets are overpriced as well, but to a lesser degree and hence have proven to be more readily shiftable.

They've also got to price according to manufacturing cost and the number that will sell as a 'limited edition'. For major labels smaller runs means greater cost at retail to keep their margins up. It's unfortunate but that's the way things are now.

Let's talk about the only interesting piece about this thing: the Colony vid.

Just bought it on iTunes. Slight upgrade in quality from the HATYM footage but nothing crazy. A bit brighter. Pretty strong performance though.

Happy to pay 2.99 for it!

Today I received the deluxe Set. It is complete, but in the little booklet/letter stands: Number 9 from 5000. So I think they will combine the deluxe items with the standard box. It's ok, cause Number 9 is nice... So, I hope, that there are really only 500 artworks... . But I will keep the box for myself and not resell it. So, it's ok, but Rhino was a bad choice.

So, maybe the winner of this auction only gets a standard box! The price is very high and still 3 days...

Don't send it back, you'll get the extra bits sent seperately. They are trying to sort this out and it's best if boxes aren't in the post unnecessarily.

yes, but its in the wrong box though...   the cat no will not correspond to the contents...     i mean if you bought an jd lp and they said, sorry were had a hiccup and lost the sleeve, heres a different one instead. would you be ok with that ?  anyway ive emailed them and await their reply.....   and considering theyve raked in about 260k from this release alone, i dont think getting things right is too much to ask...  and if i dont ask then i dont find out.....

The box is the same, supposedly the only difference is that the deluxe version has a different EAN number on a sticker on the shrinkwrap over the original one.

Has anyone heard anything further from Rhino about when the deluxe contents are going to be sent out? Also, how will they know who didn't receive the right boxes?

Having ploughed through all the depressing posts about people not having received bits of card to upgrade their box to "deluxe", Charade's post reminded me that there was actually some brand new material here. I have never used Itunes but just downloaded the software and then bought the +/- album for £10.99 - then watched the main thing I wanted which was the Colony video from Apollo. Wow - it's fantastic. A brilliant powerful version (the first 2 lines sound different to what I have ever heard for this song), and the camerawork spends time on Ian, Barney, Hooky then all of them. Obviously it's the usual dark coverage from the HATYM video but we are all used to that. What a great new release this Colony video is. I wonder if there might be anymore new video to come from Apollo in the future, let's hope so.
