"what a waste of money
you can get most of this on bootleg 7 inchs
for a 1/4 of the price and probably better quality"

But that's not the point is it? You must know that. It's new JD product; that's what matters.

Your point being?

Those bootlegs are unofficial and don't benefit the  band in any way, only produced by mercenary twats to milk sucker JD fans who'll buy any old crap (one pressing on blue vinyl, then green vinyl etc etc)

"any old crap"

Some of them are quite good though. The Factory Sample one is very nice.

It's not really a waste of money. I know the deluxe box I have snagged should be worth approximately double the £75 I paid if I choose to flog it on eBay. A sound investment opportunity if nothing else !

The only thing this benefit is for  the band - not us the fans who have put up with the same thing re packaged over and over again

Very unhappy! Hopefullyy they will send me the right one!

God that's really awful about your Deluxe box!

Are you the same chap (confusion) who posted about this on NOOL?

Looks like Rhino are operating at their usual high standard. Wonder if some lucky person who paid for the Standard box will get your Deluxe set?

What worries me is that I wanted to keep mine sealed. Now I'm going to be worried that my Deluxe box has only got the Standard contents.

Goddamn same thing happened to me: I ordered my copy of the Deluxe version on November 2nd and got billed for the full 86,19 GBP it takes to have it delivered to Belgium, and all I got was the standard set with the ten 7" discs.

And the effin' return form says that I can only return the item if it has not been opened and if the original seal is still in place. How do they expect me to know what version I got if I cannot open the bleeding thing!?

Very unhappy about this, to say the least.

Well,
I hope for a fair service from Rhino. Cause I will have the right box or a complete refund, cause you have to open the box to look which version is it, which "LittleBoy" mentioned. But it's not a good box i think... Today I also receive the Palatine Factory Story Box (Vinyl Version) signed by Wilson. Very nice! The Smiths Box from Rhino is also not very good... So, I will never buy from Rhino again!

And I shipped the opened box back to the german Rhino center. I will not discuss with them about the opening, cause it's their fault, if they send me a wrong item, that I cannot differentiate until the box is opened... I will tell you the reaction from Rhino.

Buying every color of those bootleg 7" re-issues is a little too much for me, but they are well done.

I got mine this lunchtime and it still sealed.

It is supposed to be the deluxe box - VERY CONCERNED IT IS THE STANDARD.

The catalogue number on the spine is 5186595937

..according to the website that is the STANDARD box.

the deluxe should be 5249837837.

Can anyone tell me if the deluxe does indeed have a different cat. no. ???

I don't want to break the seal to see if the CDs are in there - in case it voids my return.

...what a bunch of tossers Rhino are. Is there a UK number I can ring to be very angry about this?

No idea,
but I think they have interchanged some boxsets. Maybe you have luck! I hope for you! The poor man who will buy a wrong deluxe set on ebay for much more money!!! Today they respond to my mail and they will make a fully refund if my boxset is back in their center... But I will see.... Maybe I have to cancel my Payement.
But today I'm very happy to have no box! The covers were very bad, the box very small, no inserts or booklets... And an orange! plexiglas I don't need, it's not a JD color, if they will send me the deluxe box! So I think, it looks between my other original JD items very curious...
But good luck for all, that they will get the right box, and maybe you are pleased with the set.

...yes and if they have got a deluxe set - what is the catalogue number printed on the spine?

If the catalogue number is the same for the 2 versions - maybe some kind person can weigh their deluxe set including all inserts (so can tell which version mine is without breaking the seal).

It now transpires that some boxes with the catalogue number for the standard set actually have the deluxe edition - some with the same number of course do not.

It's confirmed that the two extra cds on the deluxe edition are the same as the promos that briefly featured on ebay before being withdrawn

These cds feature five tracks each - basically ten tracks that also form part of the box set - not really worth a light seeing as the standard set features a link to a site where you can download all 21 tracks

Added to the fact the itunes LP is £12.99 which features all the downloads plus info, four videos (including the unreleased "Colony" from the second Apollo gig) and an interview with Stephen Morris which struggled to convince me that the reasons for the set were valid - he mentions about how great it was hearing the Pennine version of LWTUA and the flexi tracks "after all these years" - "my flexi was nicked" - erm.....didn't he get a copy of "Heart & Soul"????

The farce of the distribution process has stretched my devotion to JD to it's absolute limits - I'm still waiting for my box incidentally but even if I do get the deluxe box I ordered the amatuerish nature that has already been displayed with Rhino's mailouts have alrady helped to confirm that this project is an ill-thought shambles, and the legacy of this great band is being dragged further and further into the mud.

Apparently the artwork/design is shoddy on the singles. That was the reason I didn't buy The Smiths 7" singles box set 2 years ago. The singles there looked like poor imitations of the Rough Trade originals. Looks like the same thing has happened here. Shoulda known...

btw still waiting for my copy (in the UK). Can't Rhino send a dispatch email?

Norbert from Germany has just posted this promising news for those who bought Deluxe and received Standards :

Warner send this email to the customers:

Dear Customer

We are the distribution company responsible for fulfilling orders from
the Rhino Records UK webstore, http://www.rhino.co.uk.

Warner Music Group / Rhino Records UK send stock/products to our factory
and we process these orders on their behalf when something is purchased
from the store.

This week we have experienced a processing error which has resulted in
us accidently sending a number of STANDARD box sets to people who have
ordered the DELUXE. This was a human error at our end and we sincerely
apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

We are currently in the process of rectifying this situation.

If you ordered a DELUXE box-set but received a STANDARD edition, you
will soon receive the elements required to "deluxe" your box.

We can confirm that your deluxe version was not sent out to anyone else
- your originally allocated box set is here in our warehouse. We are
subsequently going to send you...

1 x Peter Saville art piece
2 x Promo CDS
1 x Replacement cardboard insert numbered 1-500.

Other than the aforementioned elements, the box sets are exactly the
same, thus your standard box will now be deluxe.

Thank you for purchasing the Joy Division box set "+-" and once again
please accept our sincere apologies for this error.

Hope all ye's who got the wrong delivery get what you paid for. Also hope to see my boxset soon as well!!!

They weren't all that bad. I get the feeling nothing would really satisfy you in this regard. Anything that gets reproduced when original artwork is possibly missing is always going to be a slightly degraded version of the original.

Buy the originals (The Smiths I mean, since it isn't all that expensive or difficult, unlike JD).

This bit doesn't ring true. Some deluxe orders were successfully posted - and there was at least one case of someone ordering the standard issue and receiving the deluxe.
