Hi all new to the forum so here goes just wondered what was peoples second favourite band next to Joy Division,Mine is the Clash which i think some people may find an odd choice but I just love the passion and commitment.Any other people have failry odd second favourites. Ps  I have never met a fan of JD or the Clash out and about in Coventry or Brum anyway maybe cause I'm fairly young ( 26 ) no one I know has barely heard of them any body else experience this ?

My second favourite is probably Gary Numan, hopefully that's odd enough for you.

JD aren't my favourite band, it's probably the Chameleons or the Ramones.
The Clash are in my top 5.

I'd say it's a tie between Big Country and JD as my favourite band. I love them both equally.

I'm also very fond of The Killers and Dire Straits.

liking some of the the bands mentioned here definitely would have to say the doors aren't far behind.Like the Smiths also. Despite not liking many modern bands I do like the killers -will have to check out some of the bands mentioned as have to admit have not heard of some. Any top songs of the lesser well known bands mentioned would be greatly appreciated as always willing to give something new a listen

The Clash were my favourite band, before I started listening to Joy Division. And I'm one of those who love the Cure up until Pornography. Joy Division are my favourite band for neary 30 years. I have lots of second favourites, among them Scott Walker, John Coltrane, Roy Orbison, Nile Rodgers/Bernard Edwards (Chic, Sister Sledge), Black Uhuru, All Motown Stuff with James Jamerson on Bass, Gustav Mahler, John Cale....

Here's an article I wrote about Felt in 2003

Lee I checked out 'Felt", and from what I have heard they are really good. I listened to the first album, which really caught my attention. They have such a brilliant sound. Thanks for sharing the link to the peice you wrote!

Do you have all the singles and B-sides?

I have everything. "Forever Breathes The Lonely Word" is the album to get. I personally feel only two perfect albums have ever been released. "Closer" is one and "Forever Breathes The Lonely Word" is the other.

I have just run through the first two albums(which were amazing), and I'm working my way through their catalog. I can't believe these guys weren't bigger, they have such a fantastic sound! I will let you know what I thought of "Forever Breathes The Lonely Word"............

Your right about "Closer": it's perfect! But then again I feel the same about all of Joy Division's studio material!

Thanks again for posting the info about the band: I'm always open to finding great music................

You have to be careful with them - they were not a band to sit on one certain style. You may get a shock when you hear "Train Above The City".....

Thanks for the heads up....the early sound is sooooooo amazing.

Do you have and have you transfered the first 4 singles to CD?

1. Index/Break-it  (1979)
2. Something Sends me To Sleep (1981)
3. My Face is On Fire/Trails of Color dissolve (1982)
4. Penelope Tree/Preacher in New England/Now Summer Spread It's Wings Again (1983)

If so would you be willing to share or trade? I have the other singles I was looking for tracked down. I will have a high quality transfer of the 12 inch: I would be more then happy to share it if you don't have it! These are the ones I have already tracked down!

1. Primitive Painters/Cathedral (CD single)
2. Sunlight Bathed the Gloden Glow (12 inch)
3. Primitive Painters/Dismantled King is off the throne/Sunlight bathed the golden glow (CD single)

Lee after hearing "Forever Breathes The Lonely Word" and the rest of the albums, I find that I only like the early material. The first two albums and the early singles are my fav's. I don't like the the later material.......

Thanks again for turning me onto their music..........cheers

The Jam probably but having a top 10 list is pretty stupid isnt it? You can have your top 10 bands but they'll change everyday depending on your mood. I love listening to JD when I'm in a dark/depressed mood but mabye one day I'm in a happy mood and will want to listen to The Jam/Stone Roses

There's some bizzare posts here - I mean - how can you mention Big Country and Joy Division in the same breath!

And the Chameleons preferred to JD?

WalkinSilence - what excellent taste you have...

Personal taste, I'm not asking anyone to agree.

Jesus wept.
