There's some bizzare posts here - I mean - how can you mention Big Country and Joy Division in the same breath!

Quite easily, because I hugely enjoy the music made by both bands. And if my tastes are therefore 'bizzare', then I'm absolutely fine with that.

Hmm...
Smiths, Siouxsie, Popol Vuh, Colin Newman, Depeche Mode, Witthüser, Kraftwerk, Bauhaus, Q Lazzarus, Bowie, Doors, The Sound, Buzzcocks, Deichkind, Tocotronic, Nick Cave, Cure, Psyche... seems to be many bands on the second place. But only the first is the winner: Joy Division!

deichkind???tocotronic???who is the geezer that's into german hip-hop & germerman indie electro-pop.he or she should definitely mention EA80 ,the only german band that comes close to J.D.,in my book.

I consider Joy Division and New Order just one band.
For the second place I would say: Velvet Underground, Kraftwerk or Echo and The Bunnymen.

For me it's always been a close call between Joy Division and Magazine - to be honest Magazine probably just edge it. Buzzcocks (pre 1981) a close third.
It used to be my mantra at school, chalked on blackboards, written on exercise books etc. - Buzzcocks, Magazine, Joy Division!
