So yesterday, on the front page of the site for the September 23 fact of the day, it said that New Order recorded "Ceremony, the first recording without Ian the band did" or something like that.

What about the Western Works demos, recorded on September 7, 1980?

I interpreted that as the first studio recording for commercial release post-Ian.

For the record, I think the first Ceremony recording is miles better than the 1981 recording. I find New Order's three-piece period absolutely fascinating.

Same here!

They also sound great live during 2001 and 2002.
