Now on sale on Ebay, an apparently brand-new "Shimmy" poster. Interesting..."the seller is Tony Wilson's first wife." http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Joy-Division-shimmy-poster-/230883620978?pt=UK_Music_Music_Memorabilia_LE&hash=item35c1bc7872 I wonder if there´s anything else coming out from this "source". Maybe the "A Factory Sample" with the cover made by Tony Wilson himself, photocopying the original Peter Saville´s cover, and given away in xmas/78 (as stated in Hooky´s book, at p.117). I don´t know about you, but i think that would be a great piece of history....

I have an original of this poster that came via the Gretton Archive. I believe Lindsay Reade and/or Rob Grettons wife Lesley had access to a number of original posters that were doubles of gig posters in the Gretton archive .... so its possible The sizing is the same as my poster ... however its hard to tell 100% from that one pic if the paper is exactly the same (mine is thinish grade silvery grey stock, more delicate than expected). Given they were claiming that "the seller is Tony Wilson's first wife" (ie. Lindsay Reade) they could have provided some kind of COA to help back that up

Great design on "July"! Sharply contemporary yet modernistically forward. Really nice, that. Great exercise of advertising principles.
Who's the person on the poster?

Looking at the poster closely, it looks like a japanese figure (probably male) in traditional dress ... that has been cut out from a magazine

Apologies for the possibly crass 'wanted' nature of my 1st post to JDC, but if anyone has a line on an original copy of this poster (Factory/July 13/Shimmy), I'm actively looking. Email or PM with info. I'm aware of the available copies currently out there---e.g. the one referenced directly above---but there seems to be some aspirational pricing happening with those, so-

Lists for £2k, gets no bids. Lists for £2k, gets no bids. Lists for £2k, gets no bids. Lists for £2k, gets no bids. Lists for £2k, gets no bids. ....how many times before the seller realizes that, just perhaps, it's not worth £2k?

In fact, that's the story with most of that seller's listings. Starting bids all at 'too much', no bids nearly every time.

Why it is they're bootlegging the same old shit over and over, but not counterfeit posters such as these is beyond me.

I'm not sure there ever were original 1978 posters. Any evidence of them? Having said that, the artwork for these don't look like they were copied from a record sleeve, so perhaps a poster was designed at the time? Maybe Steve McGarry would know?

"I'm not sure there ever were original 1978 posters. Any evidence of them? " exactly,i believe someone stated in an earlier thread that there was no advertisement for a.i.f.l.,esp. not for the 7" & there are no records in rob's notebooks doing ads for the 12".it would seem ridiculous to do ads for a 1000 only or 12oo only pressing, maybe? anyhow, good point ,truth!
