Hi all of you lot,

Before I begin, I would like to confirm that I am fully aware with the copyright laws and whatnot but in the age of internet piracy, I would hope that I'd be adding something to the Joy Division community.

I was thinking of making my own Joy Division bootleg, like the many already in the collection. With access to the internet, I am able to access pretty much any gig and was thinking of making a compilation of my favourite live gigs. My favourite gigs are from the likes of Preston, Paradiso, Lyceum Theatre and the Factory gigs.

I mean I'm going full out, 180g vinyl, glossed sleeve as well as an original design with now remastered audio - the full works.

I was also thinking of running a pressing of maybe up to 250 - what are your thoughts on this? Would you buy it (cheap mind)?

Hi,
Nice project & good idea but .... Preston, Paradiso, Lyceum are so "commons" ...

I would suggest this :

- A Paris, Les Bains douches 18/12/1979 release would be nice, using & compiling the Radios broadcast to arrive to a near full SBD set ... ;

- Bruxelles, plan K 17/01/1980 : only available on the GOTTERDAMMERUNG lp at a wrong speed ; so a remaster to improve the quality & the right speed would be great ;

- Berlin, Kant Kino 21/01/1980 : I doubt of the possibility to increase the bad quality of the own source existing but ... why not ?

- Pavilion, Hemel Hempstead 05/11/1979 : Not on Lp or Cd sor it would be great !

 - ...

- A nice release would be also a Picture-disc of Dante's Inferno ....

So for sure a nice release (sleeve, lp, ...) I agree on it ! & would buy it

Guildford as a double 10" in a white textured gatefold sleeve with the pulsar would be a nice touch...at least that is what i would do if i had the resources.

A reflection ...
Considering the project on the way, a crowdfunding could be done ...
🤔

Sounds like a real worthwhile project.....but,i don't know if we should change communication channels as what we're discussing is not quite legit and could damage this site?

At this point we are just fantasizing,so no worries.....if we are contemplating fruition of a project we should talk privately on other channels,if you get my drift?

Hi all,

Vinyl pressing for 250 copies is about £825 - a lot cheaper than most places online.

However, also gotta pay for sleeve designs and whatnot, overall, it looks like quite like a worthwhile project.

I can easily self-fund this.

I'm not sure about this... I mean, for me personally, the big issue is sound quality, or more precisely, being able to VERIFY that a vinyl bootleg has been (a) sourced from the original tape or as close as possible to it, and (b) hasn't gone through an unknowable trail of digital processing before being transferred to vinyl. And here's the problem: you say "With access to the internet, I am able to access pretty much any gig"...well so can everyone else, and so why would I fork out cash for a vinyl which someone had downloaded the audio off Youtube or whatever? Even if the sleeve of the record says "certified to be a true and unprocessed copy of the master recording, copied direct to the acetate", it doesn't automatically mean it's the truth, does it?
Back in the 1980s, before the internet, the trick was to buy the first available bootlegs of a concert, because that way you could be reasonably sure that they weren't TOO many generations away from the master recording. But these days, that's all irrelevant. There's no way of knowing how many times a piece of audio has been saved as 16-bit flac, normalised, converted to 256kbps mp3, compressed and EQd then converted back to wav, then back to 192k mp3, then to 320k mp3 etc etc... You just have to look it up on (say) Youtube and record/download the audio that sounds best to you. So you end up with a copy on your hard drive that you quite like, but you'd really love (and would pay) to have something "nearer to the source audio" - but how can you tell what a £10 vinyl on sale in a market stall is going to sound like until you get it home? That's the problem these days.
Sorry to be a bit negative, and of course this is just MY feelings about vinyl bootlegs. Other people will think differently.

Well,for me it would be the kick of putting something never pressed on vinyl ,of the best band ever for the first time ever,simply out there.....if you download it or prefer a nostalgic medium to consume,....pick your spots,imhfo!

@ Recording Silence
I understand your point of view & for sure nowadays with the internet, youtube et many things like that, difficult now to know & identify the taping generation.
Mp3 for me is a "crime" :!!!

BTW new technologies help to increase quality.

I am vinyl collector, also I tape shows since more than 20 years now (using DAT & SD recorder), I still buy & collect CDs, I still own hundred of live analogic tapes, VHS ...

Speaking about the Guildford Civic Hall show, unrealeased on vinyl/CD, it would be real fantastic to have it done ... at a reasonable price for sure.

So bored of the same shows (Paradiso, etc ...) reedited...

This is taken from the fact 10cc purple boxed cassette and would make the perfect cover as it hasn't been over used...esp. when textured cover is applied.

....then using this design for the reverse or inner sleeve:

...and interchange it with information of the gig and set-list.
i like the silver ink used.

@incubation
Are you ok with it(esp.the textured material is crucial)?brilliant,any thoughts on using the guildford gig?its never been transfered to vinyl and i bet fage could knock out the best sounding "master",if you will.
It was an idea i had for a couple of years now but never had the connections nor funds to realise this project.if i can help in any way,shape or form please contact me.

Since there is such a popular demand for the Guildford gig, I think that's the one that will take the prize.
