Hi there,

Over the last few days I discovered that "STANDARD FACTUS" , the JD/NO fanzine I started and produced so many years ago, is still talked about and information on it can still be found on the internet. Also on this (excellent) website.

I've seen copies of it that were sold on EBAY for some serious money.

It's good to know that Joy Divison's music is still appreciated and that websites like this exit.

Joy Division played a major role in my adult life and also had a big influence on me while playing in bands.

The last band I was in was sometimes compared to Joy Division by people in the audiance and we always took that as a big compliment.

I still create music , but it's all electronic now. You might like to know that my latest track I published on YouTube is a special tribute to Joy Division.  It's my version of ISOLATION. (Use a good set of headphones or speakers for best result)

Anyway , keep up the good work and I will return here for sure.

Regards,

Max

Hello Max, and welcome to the JDC message board!

It's been a long time since you did the excellent Standard fanzine, but as you mentioned there is still interest in it.

Thanks for sharing your version of Isolation, it is really good I think, very atmospheric.

Cheers

Erik

Yeah , time sure flies.

By the way , you've listed the fanzine as "FACTUS" as well as "STANDARD" in your index but originally it was  "STANDARD FACTUS".

And both names have been used and that's fine.

STANDARD FACTUS V and VI have had two (numbered) printings with different backs.

Thanks for your kind words on my version of Isolation , in return I send my compliments to you for this excellent website. A job well done!

Regards,

Max

Thanks for the additional information.

I was aware of the two different editions of FACTUS V; I have copy number 69 from the first edition and no. 40 from the second, but I didn't know there were two editions of FACTUS VI as well.

By the way, is it correct that there are only 30 copies of FACTUS IV? Mine has a hand-written number "10043" on it.

Glad you like the web-site!

Well I had to check myself , see what I'd written about producing it in FACTUS VI.  As IV (without the covers and reduced in size) was included in VI.

I mention there 30 copies being made and I guess I did stick to that. Really can't remember making another bunch.

I handglued the small spines as a finishing touch on them myself so I guess I would have remembered doing that twice , although it's been some time.....

Mine has 10007 on it. Why yours has 10043 if only 30 have been made I really can't tell.

Perhaps someone (it could have been me.....) made a few copies extra?

Does yours have the handglued spine?

I do remember really wanting to create another release but lacked money, inspiration and contributors. Therefore it had so little pages.

V and VI were more like II and III.  FACTUS I was like IV in a way , a bit clumsy but made with love.

And I guess that matters most / still.

Looking through the material I still have I discovered the originals / testprints and even a little poster advertising FACTUS I to be put up in local shops which some did. And I also discovered the setup for a JD/NO book I was planning to release but never did.  It was to be like the History in Cutting books , illustrated with grim pictures of mummies and the likes of that.

Time flies....

Mine has the glued-on spine with "Standard" and "The rise of love and the fall of hate" and "Factus 4" on it. The number is hand-written in blue pen on the back cover.

It was probably a good idea to include the material from issue 4 in the 6th issue as so few people found a copy of the 4th issue at the time, I also got FACTUS IV before I eventually found the elusive FACTUS 4.

I know of a few other people who also had plans to do books on JD/NO back then, but never got past the planning stage either so you're not alone.

It's obviously difficult to remember all the exact details from so long ago. Your fanzine was clearly made with love as you put it.

I double checked my copy and it has 1007 on it. Wiritten in black.

Using a black pen (if available) has always be my choice , why yours is in blue I don't know.

Could be I made another bunch , could be I used a blue pen on those.

It's been 29 years so my memory might be playing tricks on me.

Someone copying the thing would be possible but also doing the spine thing doesn't sound credible.

If you ever need further information or photos of STANDARD and / or related stuff (like cut-out ads for it from NME, the little poster, letters with contributions / information or whatever) just let me know.

I also used to have some correspondence with an employee at Factory, her name was Tracy if I am not mistaking. On special Factory paper. She once sent me a free copy of the N.O. X-mas Hacienda flexi and was helpful with some questions about the bands and Factory. Not sure what happened to it.

Things did get lost / mislaid over the years.....

P.S. Anton Corbijn lives nearby (He, like me, also lives in The Hague) , I've seen him quite a few times on the streets. Just the other day I was standing in line with my girlfriend at a small supermarket and there he was again. I thought about approaching him but didn't. He must be getting tired of people asking him about JD and other bands.

Interesting to hear about these additional items associated with your fanzine. I'll let Marko decide if he wants to use anything on the web-site as he's the one doing all the actual site updates.

It must be cool seeing Anton Corbijn around where you live, I've no idea how he would react if you approach him and he may possibly not mind at all, but who knows.

I'm not sure what the story is behind my unusual copy of FACTUS IV, but it's nice to have it anyway.

I can't reply to the email Marko sent me.

I get this :

And P.S. Is that you Jan Erik Justesen?

Is there's any way to view this... magazine, or how do you call it? In photos, perhaps? Can't seem to find it anywhere, except for cover photos.

Hi Max

AOL reckon it is a problem at your ISP's end:

<<>>

How about you work with Erik on whatever you want to do for JD Central and he can send the finished article, or whatever you want to do, to me in a Word document?

If Erik agrees, obviously

Here's what AOL said:

Our Postmaster team reports that the error message the sender is receiving, is due to a local issue with the sender's outgoing server (SMTP). The sender will have to check the outgoing server setup on his end to correct the issue.

@Marko : never, ever had this problem and I've been mailing (with) people all over the world. So I don't feel the need to correct any issue on my side.  ;-)

I'll see what I can do with the article , need to have the / more time , rather busy right now.

But I do like the idea.

Bumping an old thread...

I managed to track down some scans of issues 1 and 2 of ‘Standard’ a few days ago and it looks great.
I’d really love to see the other issues.

Does anyone have scans of issues 3-6 that they could let me see?

(Also, if anyone has scans of the New Order fanzine ‘Last Orders’ I’d be very grateful for copies).
