First off,sorry for starting this topic again (if it has been,but i am not sure) but i am trying to find out when "STILL" was first issued on CD in the UK.discogs has conflicting info,it states under re-releases that,like MC's,it was first released on CD in 1986 but has no listing under that year.The first CD release was a year later by Factory,Polygram-Canada & the first UK release was in 1990,according to discogs.
https://www.discogs.com/de/Joy-Division-Still/master/4969
Now,the factory-records-catalog site dates the first UK release at 1989?
https://factoryrecords.org/factory-records/fact-40-joy-division-still.php
Has anyone here more knowledge or even bought one before 1990 or any info to either refute or prove otherwise?thanks upfront for any help and info......-dmxi-

I once had a small book about Joy Division called “Form & Substance”. It came out in 1988 and judging from the title not long after Substance was released.
I remember that somewhere in it it said “Once Still is released on CD the ghost can finally be laid to rest. The chicken stops here”. Well, apart from the fact the ghost was far from being laid to rest, it clearly indicates there was no Still on CD prior to 1988. I think it first came out on CD in ‘89.
I ‘ve got Still on a Japanese 1989 fatbox edition (including a booklet full of misheard lyrics, pure gold!)

From what I remember the first UK Factory CD release, FACD 40, came out in 1990. There's a Canadian CD edition from '87 on PolyGram, and US (Qwest) and Japanese (Columbia) CD releases from 1989. I totally agree about the Japanese double CD lyrics booklet, hilarious!

“I’ve been waiting for a guy to come and take me by the hand”, or “directionless so plain to see, a lonely girl won’t set you free”. Priceless.

Maybe the 1985 date on some versions just relates to copyrights, not to the year of release and this gets people confused?

Probably, I don't think there were any JD CDs around as early as 1985. The first CD I ever bought was actually New Order - Low-Life in 1985, it was made in Japan according to what it says on the disc although it was a UK release and came with a "car carry case". I didn't even have a CD player at the time, but got one the following year when UP and Closer too came out on CD, also nicely packaged with additional "car carry case" bonus sleeves.

What a FAC-UP,a label that praises its releases with individual numbers but can't pin-point certain releases....oh the irony.

This NME ad from 17/3/90 seems to confirm the date, or year at least;

Sounds good about the "Closer" car carry case, I hope it meets your expectations when it arrives. I have to say the original UK "Still" CD was a bit disappointing after the UP & Closer CD issues with the nice textured/card inserts and bonus car carry cases, it's nothing special in terms of presentation or packaging.

Ok,it took 4 years to add still as cd and designs seemed to have copied general cd-who-gives-a-fook-about-design attitude as factory was declining in financials and ethics.....DATS were a short thing,but early 90ties proved it was like vhs vs beta max....loved the idea,machinery and.....well,its just 'and',couldn't afford it and why swap perfect working technics.....that even improved after cds over-push on the market?...but the dats have been becoming oddities,still in hope aquiring one shortly,just for the sake of it!nah' i am swaying off a bit.....keep your "substance" dat neatly tucked away,see it as an investment for the future.
