At the end of the opening match Poland v Greece in the Euros BBC1 used the "Ideal for Living"  track "Warsaw" as a soundtrack to a video previewing the Group of Death.

Have to say this is the first time I have heard anything off "Ideal for Living" on mainstream TV. It sounded really good but the "Warsaw" connection was probably over the heads of most viewers.

Rather inappropriate as the news followed immediately afterwards from Auschwitz.  The numbers read out on the track 31G-350125 is Rudolf Hess's prison number!  The BBC probably googled Warsaw and probably thought it was a good track.

The 'group of death' contains Germany and 2 countries occupied by the Nazis.

Good point Abteilung - I  had not thought of that - "No Love Lost" (my favourite from the EP) would have been equally inappropriate - with big chunks quoted from "The House of Dolls".

...mind you maybe the BBC will use "Failures" once England have played a few games!

It's not the first time something from An Ideal for Living's been on mainstream tv - 'Failures' once made an appearance on EastEnders!

And then later the same day 'She's Lost Control' was shown in full from the Something Else programme on the BBC4 programme 'Punk Britannia At The BBC'.

2 Joy Division airings on TV in one day was pretty surreal for me.

Thought the "group of death" thing was in poor taste. Whether for the concentration camp links, or Ian's suicide.

It's also worth pointing out that NONE of the Group Of Death games are taking place in Warsaw (or even Poland for that matter). They're all in Ukraine

It did sound good though!

The "group of death" tag has absolutely nothing to do with Germany and its checkered past as such (and even less with Ian's death). It's just the common term in football slang for a group where several serious contenders are competing directly with each other in the early stages of a competition already, in the process killing off each other and thus helping out the other strong teams (who as a rule confront more than one "weaker" contestant in the first round of a tournament).

Some time ago, the BBC Sports Service has also used No Love Lost as a backdrop for a report.

Looking forward to episode 3 (Post-punk) of the documentary part of Punk Britannia later this week. Peter Hook's mentioned in the info on the BBC website so hopefully quite a bit on JD.
