This is something else, another version from known bootleg label DOL. The Vinyl Passion RSD one was stopped in its tracks by Warners. No need to pay over the odds for this one though, should be available very cheap.

Hello Truth - Do you know if there is a difference between the source recordings used for the DOL release and the proposed Vinyl Passion one?

No idea what they've used, the RSD one will be the same as the 'baby' one, with the 6 extra tracks. The DOL one doesn't have these. Neither being official I can say they haven't had access to any tapes from the band's archive.

Weird that they pull the initial one with the reasons given,as stated on the main paige(jdc) ,to letting this release being included?rsd was going down-hill anyway......except sometimes there is a worth while release like substance.love the double lp version.

Substance wasn't a Record Store Day release. Warner may well deal with this one too at some point, though making something a high profile RSD release does bring it to their attention very rapidly. It was already getting press mentions.

Don't pay much for the DOL one, it's cheap and should always be cheap, like all their stuff.

£120.00 ? £100.00 ? I would only pay that for One of those Early Peel Sessions LPs with The Blank Label and Cover. Not that They ever Appear for Sale though.

Given that this is yet another unofficial reissue/bootleg of the Warsaw/Joy Division RCA sessions -and I know there have been a few over the years- I'd like to ask the board members in their opinion in terms of sound quality what is the best complete version/release of this recording? Has there ever been a pressing on vinyl from a first generation cassette or analogue source from the time of recording? Does a master tape still exist even and if so who owns it? Were the songs ever mastered for a proper vinyl release at the time or were they only ever rough demos to capture their original sound? thanks Andy.
