No Moonlight, I see. I know it is now at the back of the Dog and Partridge pub in W. Hampstead and is no longer a venue - but the steps up to the entrance still exist. If I get a chance, I'll pop down there and grab a photo.

The venue picture for the YMCA gig needs to be changed. It's actually of the Prince of Wales theatre on Coventry Street next to Leicester Square.

Good point Webnazm - the gig was actually in the YMCA building behind the Dominion theatre ... wasn't it

Spent many early/mid eighties evenings in the Moonlight.

First time I went there was to see Conflict, the place was absolutely packed, seemed like there were hundreds of people there.

Next time I went I was gobsmacked I couldn't believe how small the place was - it is hard to believe that Joy Division played there.

I know that it was a 'secret' appearance but the room was literally the proverbial pub back room.

One of the few colour pics I've seen of any band playing the Russell Club.

...this was Rafters and it's off to the right and across Portland Street.

I used to love that amusement arcade btw, last place you could play Space Invaders in town (although there was a place on Oldham St too).

Great picture. It looks very early in the Russell/Factory/Russell lifespan. The 'dressing' room was behind the back wall, A pre make-up Wayne County once chased a couple of autograph hunters out from behind there, not a pretty site. Goats Head Curry anyone?
