The pedestrian bridge in Hulme, Manchester used in Kevin Cummins iconic photograph of the band featured on the cover of the recent greatest hits album has a new campaign to rename it in honour of Ian Curtis. Several Hulme residents (including me) want to remember Ian and the impact he and Joy Division had on the Manchester music scene by renaming the bridge "Ian Curtis Memorial bridge" instead of its current name "Epping Walk Bridge".

Epping Walk refers to a block of flats that has been since torn down. Little remains of the Hulme depicted in Kevin Cummins' photographs taken on a cold January morning in 1979.

If you think its a good idea then let us know - thanks

How about 'Joy Division Bridge' - he wasn't the only one there if I remember.

There should be a tribute to the whole band somewhere more central, eventually.

Great stuff. Some insignificant trivia, recently I found out that the front cover of the U2 single "A day without me" from 1980 is the same bridge. They continued their Joy Division fascination for a little longer.

Except that it really isn't.

Does this look like Hulme?

@Still: The U2 cover shows train tracks underneath that footbridge.  The Cummins pics show two wide car lanes.  I can't imagine how anyone would confuse the U2 cover for the same bridge.
